Full Job Description
The Building Automation System (BAS) Applications Engineer is tasked with learning project scopes by reviewing plans and specifications submitted to IBCS by contractors, and creating a Temperature Control (TC) drawing set according to our negotiated scope of work. This involves the production and submittal of Flow Diagrams, Sequences of Operation, Device Schedules, I/O Wiring Diagrams, Bills of Material, and Hardware or Software Cut Sheets. Our projects include schools, office high-rises, and manufacturing facilities. Typical project scopes include controls for central plants, mechanical room equipment, and field equipment.
Specific responsibilities include:
Coordinating with Engineering Firms, General Contractors, and Subcontractors to receive up-to-date project documentation.
Communicating with the Sales staff to understand project scopes, submittal deadlines, and project installation milestones.
Authoring and submitting Requests For Information (RFIs) for project scope clarity.
Selecting parts and materials to be installed, such as Controllers, Valves, Actuators, Relays, Current and Temperature Sensors.
Using MS Visio and MS Office software to engineer submittal documentation.
Revising submitted drawings as directed by the project’s Consulting Engineers or Owners.
Ordering project material in a timely manner to ensure smooth installation workflow and meet construction deadlines.
Communicating with our Installation team to gather feedback and field changes, and keep drawing sets up to date as on-site installation progresses.
Finalizing as-built drawing sets after project completion.
Leading Engineering to Installation team turnover meetings
Staying knowledgeable, familiar, and up to date with IBCS controller lines.
A candidate must have a strong background and education in the commercial application of HVAC Controls and Building Automation. This includes:
A strong understanding of Mechanical, HVAC, and Electrical system
A minimum of 3 years of experience designing BAS Control systems
A strong understanding of BacNet networks, both MS/TP, and IP
Experience with BAS integration of vendor equipment like VFDs and RTUs
Proficiency in reading and interpreting Plans and Specifications
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.
Extensive experience using MS Visio
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
A strong understanding of building construction methods and standards
A willingness to continuously learn and grow your Engineering expertise
Additional Requirements
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, Mechanical preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.
A valid driver's license
