Position Summary

The Overnight Building Engineer is responsible for maintaining and monitoring all mission-critical building systems at The Century, a premier 42-story luxury residential tower in Century City. This position operates independently and without direct supervision, requiring exceptional self-motivation, technical expertise, and accountability.

The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of the building’s electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems, including cooling towers, VAVs, pumps, and controls. They must demonstrate the ability to identify, respond to, and resolve issues efficiently while maintaining The Century’s five-star standard of service. Accurate documentation and clear communication between shifts are essential to ensure continuity across the engineering department.


Key Responsibilities:

System and Equipment Monitoring

  • Monitor the operational status and performance of all building mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems during overnight hours.
  • Conduct regular walkthroughs to assess system health, verify alarms, and ensure all systems are functioning properly.
  • Report any irregularities or system alerts to senior engineering staff and document findings accordingly.

Preventive and Routine Maintenance

  • Perform scheduled and routine maintenance tasks such as equipment cleaning, filter changes, inspections, and minor adjustments.
  • Execute light mechanical and plumbing repairs, and escalate larger issues as necessary.

Troubleshooting and Emergency Response

  • Respond promptly to after-hours issues, alarms, and emergencies, including power disruptions, leaks, or equipment failures.
  • Provide initial troubleshooting and temporary resolutions, escalating critical issues when required.
  • Work autonomously to ensure building safety and system integrity throughout the shift.

Documentation and Shift Handoff

  • Maintain detailed, accurate logs of all activities, system readings, and maintenance performed.
  • Complete overnight reports documenting any abnormalities, corrective actions, or pending tasks.
  • Ensure a professional handoff of all relevant information to the morning shift engineer for seamless operational continuity and congruency among staff.
  • Adhere strictly to documentation and reporting protocols.

Vendor and Access Coordination

  • Provide access and escort services for approved vendors, contractors, and carriers when required.
  • Support internal management and departments with overnight operational needs.

Inventory and Compliance

  • Assist with inventory tracking, deliveries, and materials management.
  • Follow all safety and compliance guidelines, ensuring adherence to The Century’s operational standards and applicable city regulations.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a high-rise or large commercial/residential building environment.
  • High-rise experience required.
  • Experience in an HOA or luxury residential setting is highly suggested but not required.
  • In-depth technical knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems, including cooling towers, VAV systems, and pumps.
  • Proven ability to perform preventive maintenance, identify system irregularities, and execute troubleshooting independently.
  • Must be a self-starter capable of working efficiently and responsibly in an unsupervised environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; documentation precision is critical.
  • Strong professionalism and attention to detail in maintaining the five-star service standard expected at The Century.
  • Proficiency in using maintenance management or ticketing systems.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physically active work as required.


Additional Information:

This role is designed to ensure round-the-clock operational coverage of The Century’s critical infrastructure. The Overnight Building Engineer is expected to maintain composure under pressure, demonstrate sound technical judgment, and deliver exceptional service standards consistent with the property’s reputation for excellence.

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM
