Building & Grounds- Maintenance Worker (Seasonal)

Job Summary
The Charter Township of Brownstown is seeking reliable and hardworking candidates to join our Department of Public Works team. Under the general supervision of the DPW Office Administrator or designated official, this position is responsible for performing a wide range of manual labor tasks including construction, repair work, general building maintenance, basic landscaping, and cleaning. The ideal candidate will be comfortable operating both manual and power-driven tools and utilizing Township vehicles as needed to support daily operations and maintain community facilities.

Duties

• Work with contractors on maintenance and repairs such as heating and cooling, electrical, and plumbing.
• Perform cleaning duties, such as but not limited to, sweeping, mopping, wiping down counters and tables in hallways, cleaning windows and doors.
• Perform general electrical repairs such as changing light bulbs, ballasts, light switches, changing batteries on toilets, sinks, and paper towel dispensers.
• General maintenance duties such as painting and minor building repairs.
• Perform general service on drinking fountains such as changing filters.
• Set up furniture for meetings and events such as board meetings, SHVUA meetings, and other Township events.
• Perform outdoor maintenance when needed such as tree trimming and weed removal around Township campus/Police Department and other landscaping duties as assigned.
• Perform monthly testing of emergency signs, lights, and fire extinguishers.
• Assist with needs of Clerk’s Office during elections such as moving boxes and equipment.
• Emptying trash cans in and around the building at Township Hall and Police Department.
• Collect recycling from various departments and place outside for pickup.
• Lock up building at the end of the day (as needed).
• Maintain and order inventory for building maintenance items such as light bulbs, bathroom supplies, batteries, etc.
• Assembling/moving desks, chairs, shelves, cabinets, etc.
• Assist other departments in similar capacities (DDA, Police Dept, Recreation, DPW, etc.)
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• Valid Driver's License.
• Experience in building and grounds maintenance including operation of mowers, trimmers, and hand tools.
• Electrical aptitude for performing replacement of ballasts and light switches.
