The Building Maintenance Mechanic performs general preventive and corrective maintenance, repairs, and inspections of hospital facilities, equipment, systems, and grounds. Ensures a safe, functional, and comfortable hospital environment by completing work according to established standards, regulatory requirements, and department procedures.
High school diploma or equivalent
Technical/vocational training in building maintenance, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, or related field preferred
Previous facilities maintenance experience preferred
Valid Driver’s license
1. Perform routine preventive maintenance and repairs on building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and security/alarm systems.
2. Respond promptly to maintenance requests and work orders, diagnosing and correcting mechanical, electrical, and structural problems.
3. Complete minor construction, renovations, installations, and modifications; assist with larger facility projects as assigned.
4. Maintain hospital infrastructure, including doors, windows, locks, walls, floors, ceilings, lighting, and fixtures in patient and non-patient areas.
5. Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain hospital equipment; monitor safe operation and compliance with codes and standards.
6. Maintain accurate logs, inspection/checklists, and documentation for maintenance, repairs, inventory, and equipment status.
7. Monitor and respond to utility, safety, emergency, and alarm systems; support environmental services and infection control standards as needed.
8. Assist with snow/ice removal, exterior grounds, basic landscaping, and general cleaning as required.
9. Ensure proper use and care of tools, equipment, and supplies; report equipment problems and order repairs as necessary.
10. Maintain safety by adhering to policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and hospital standards; attend all required safety training and follow correct body mechanics.
11. Communicate professionally with hospital staff, contractors, and vendors; maintain confidentiality and respect patient privacy.
12. Support hospital mission and participate in departmental meetings, quality improvement, and cross-departmental projects as assigned.
13. Behave and dress in a professional and courteous manner consistent with the facilities Standards of Behavior.
