Who We Are:
Apella is applying computer vision, machine learning to improve the standard of care in the most critical aspect of healthcare: surgery. We build applications to enable surgeons, nurses, and hospital administrators to deliver the highest quality care.
The Role
Apella is transforming surgical care through real-time data and predictive analytics. We’re looking for a Business Analyst who thrives at the intersection of data and decision-making. This role is central to how we support customers, shape our product, and empower commercial and leadership teams. You’ll work across functions to deliver insights that uncover opportunities to improve surgical operations and drive measurable impact for hospitals. A strong candidate is energized by complex problems, enjoys working directly with customers, and collaborates fluidly with engineering, product, and commercial teams.
What You’ll Do
Respond to high-priority, ad hoc customer data requests — the heartbeat of the role. Common analyses include surgical scheduling patterns, OR throughput, and workflow inefficiencies.
Own end-to-end analytics workstreams, from exploring raw data to building production-ready models in dbt.
Develop internal dashboards and reporting tools for commercial teams to track customer performance, outcomes, and adoption.
Identify themes across customer data requests and build scalable tools that enable the Customer Success team to deliver insights more efficiently.
Translate recurring data needs into structured feedback for the product team, helping guide roadmap decisions and feature design.
Present complex analyses in a clear, actionable way to customers and stakeholders across the company.
Maintain a portfolio of strategic analyses that inform product strategy, customer engagement, and business decisions.
What You Bring
Proven experience in healthcare analytics, ideally with familiarity in hospital or surgical settings.
Expertise in SQL and dbt, with the ability to own your data modeling pipeline from exploration to delivery. Familiarity reading Python is a plus.
Comfort working with healthcare data sources, including EHRs, OR operational data, and clinical schedules.
Strong analytical instincts and the ability to operate independently in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment.
Excellent communication skills and confidence working across technical and non-technical teams.
A builder’s mindset — proactive, detail-oriented, and focused on scalable solutions.
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required.
