Business Development Lending Specialist

Community Ventures lends to a wide range of businesses, from startups to multi-million dollar community revitalization projects. We are a leader in offering loans to women, veteran and minority-owned businesses, as well as businesses located in low-to-moderate income areas. Business loans range from $500 to $5 million.

Our support doesn’t end with the loan closing; Community Ventures’ expert staff will provide ongoing business advice to make sure you have the tools and knowledge to succeed and grow.

Our Business Development Specialist consults with clients to define personal and business needs or problems; provides individual technical assistance or classroom training to address the needs or problems; assists clients, when necessary, in obtaining appropriate financing for their business concerns; and provides post-loan-closing technical assistance as needed. Has knowledge of microlending criteria and the ability to underwrite loans originated by others. These functions will be completed by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Technical Assistance and Training

  • Interviews client to determine client's personal and business needs including current family income, assets, liabilities, cash flow, insurance coverage, tax status, and financial objectives.
  • Analyzes data to determine solutions such as development of business plan, financing, development of additional financial and organizational management skills, installation of alternate methods and procedures, changes in processing methods and practices, modification of machines or equipment, or redesign of products or services.
  • Assists clients with bookkeeping, marketing, business plan development and implementation, legal and insurance issues.
  • Utilizes and refers clients to other sources to obtain necessary services.
  • Establishes, sets up and maintains training facilities when applicable.
  • Presents established and effective business training courses using approved curricula and appropriate training methods, techniques, and ideas.
  • Schedules and introduces presentations by internal or outside lecturers, motivational speakers, and sales or product specialists.
  • Assists in developing new training courses associated with enhancing the success of clients and introducing new products or services in Microlending and WBC.
  • Studies and develops skills in use of better teaching and training methods.
  • Keeps informed on new developments, methods, and techniques in the business training field.

Lending

  • Markets CVC's business loan products and generates sufficient activity to meet established goals.
  • Adheres to all Business Development policies and procedures, both written and non-written.
  • Gathers appropriate information pertaining to each assigned client's loan request such as sources of income, history and reliability of income, current debts, payment history, assets, etc.
  • Assists client in filling out the loan or credit application including required proformas.
  • Advocates for client during loan review and approval process.
  • Maintains monthly contact with client to provide technical assistance and ensure current status of loan.

Data Collection and Reporting

  • Ensures completion of all client-related documents and submits them to the appropriate data collection personnel or file.
  • Documents in detail all technical assistance provided to customers and ensures the documentation is recorded in client files.
  • Provides necessary data to contract management personnel to ensure compliance with Corporation's contractual agreements.

Underwriting

  • Has thorough knowledge of SBA Microloan underwriting criteria. In the absence of specific SBA lending expertise, must have compensating experience in small- and start-up business lending.
  • Has the ability to review all relevant data and make sound credit decisions for microloan requests up to established lending limit.
  • Has good communication skills and the ability to write and discuss loan projects that are submitted to loan committee for review and approval.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Extensive experience as small business loan originator or underwriter; bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university preferred; or four to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Pay: $35.00 per hour
