BDM in a construction company is primarily responsible for driving revenue growth by identifying new project opportunities and securing contracts through strategic relationship management.
Core Responsibilities for BDM:
1. Strategic Growth & Market Intelligence
· Identify Market Opportunities: Researching and identifying new construction projects, sector trends (e.g., green building, modular construction), and emerging markets to expand the company's footprint.
· Develop Growth Plans: Creating and executing long-term strategic plans and annual sales targets aligned with the company’s financial objectives.
· Competitor Analysis: Monitoring competitor activities, pricing, and service offerings to ensure the company remains competitive in the bidding process.
2. Relationship & Network Management
· Client Acquisition: Proactively seeking out and building relationships with new clients, including developers, architects, engineers, and government entities.
· Stakeholder Engagement: Maintaining a strong network of industry contacts through regular attendance at trade shows, exhibitions, and networking events.
· Customer Retention: Managing existing client relationships to secure repeat business and ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
3. Tendering & Proposal Management
· Bid Oversight: Leading the bid process by identifying suitable Request for Proposals (RFPs) and collaborating with estimators and technical teams to prepare competitive submissions.
· Presentations & Pitching: Developing and delivering compelling sales presentations to prospective clients that showcase the company's unique value proposition and technical capabilities.
· Contract Negotiation: Navigating the legal and financial terms of construction contracts to secure profitable deals while mitigating risk for the company.
4. Internal Collaboration & Reporting
· Cross-functional Coordination: Working closely with project managers, estimators, and marketing teams to ensure that proposed solutions are technically feasible and aligned with the company's brand.
· Performance Tracking: Maintaining a healthy sales pipeline and providing regular reports to senior management on lead generation, conversion rates, and revenue forecasts.
· CRM Management: Utilizing Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools (e.g., Salesforce) to track all client interactions, bid activities, and follow-ups.
