Position Summary
The Business Development Manager is responsible for expanding market share and driving revenue growth for the company’s specialty construction services across the Greater Houston area and surrounding Gulf Coast region. This role focuses on identifying project opportunities, building relationships with general contractors, owners, engineers, and procurement teams, and positioning the company as a preferred contractor for specialized scopes of work.
Key Responsibilities
Market Development & Strategy
- Identify and pursue new project opportunities within commercial, industrial, energy, infrastructure, and municipal sectors.
- Develop a deep understanding of specialty construction offerings (e.g., concrete repair, coatings, specialty trades, industrial maintenance, environmental services, MEP work, or similar).
- Conduct competitive analyses and market research to track trends in capital projects, maintenance cycles, and emerging construction needs.
- Create and execute territory growth strategy aligned with company goals and operational capacity.
Client Acquisition & Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with:
- General contractors
- Engineering firms
- Facility owners/operators
- Construction managers
- Procurement and estimating teams
- Promote the company’s technical capabilities and value propositions in early project planning stages.
- Lead client meetings, presentations, proposals, and prequalification efforts.
- Manage key accounts to ensure repeat business and long-term partnerships.
Sales Execution & Opportunity Management
- Maintain an active pipeline of construction opportunities using CRM systems; track bid invitations, project schedules, and award timelines.
- Collaborate with estimating and operations teams to develop accurate proposals, scope packages, pricing strategies, and client-specific bid submissions.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and industry and networking events across the Houston and Gulf Coast region.
- Achieve quarterly and annual sales targets related to revenue, new accounts, and market expansion.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Coordinate with project management and field teams to ensure customer expectations are met from project award through completion.
- Provide voice-of-customer feedback to leadership regarding service offerings, competitive positioning, and opportunities for service expansion.
- Partner with marketing to develop collateral, case studies, and technical presentations tailored to industry stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field (or equivalent industry experience).
- 3–7+ years of business development, sales, or account management experience within construction or specialty contracting.
- Strong understanding of construction project lifecycles, bid processes, procurement pathways, and owner/GC relationships.
- Existing relationships in the Industrial, Energy, Environmental, etc. fields.
- Demonstrated success winning specialty construction scopes or selling technical construction services.
- Excellent communication, networking, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, scopes of work, and project specifications a plus.
Preferred Skills
- Established network within the Houston construction and industrial markets.
- Familiarity with CRM tools (Salesforce, HubSpot, etc.).
- Strong strategic thinking, organization, and pipeline management skills.
- Ability to work independently, travel locally, and manage multiple opportunities simultaneously.
- Knowledge of safety standards, industry regulations, and best practices in specialty contracting.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
