If you're ambitious, resilient, and passionate about helping others succeed, we invite you to apply and grow with Dale Carnegie.
About Us
Dale Carnegie has been a global leader in professional learning and development for over 100 years. We partner with organizations to strengthen leadership, communication, and human performance, helping teams operate more effectively as they grow and evolve.
We help people become inspiring leaders and communicators so they can make a difference in the world.
We’re looking for a driven, early-career sales professional who wants to build a long-term career in consultative B2B sales, focused on leadership development, organizational effectiveness, and talent strategy.
About the Role
As a Business Development Representative (BDR), you’ll play a critical role in building our future client relationships. This role is focused on creating relevant, high-quality conversations with organizations that lead to sales opportunities.
You’ll be assigned specific industries and company size segments, develop targeted outreach messaging, and work closely with senior consultants to generate well-positioned discovery meetings. This role offers a clear development path into an Account Executive or Senior Consultant position within 12–24 months.
We are hiring for judgment, curiosity, drive, and excellent communication skills, not just activity.
Success in this role is measured by the quantity and quality of meaningful conversations created, the sales opportunities generated from those conversations, and the ability to build trust with prospective clients.
Responsibilities
- Conduct outbound outreach (calls, emails, LinkedIn) to prospective clients using industry- and size-specific messaging
- Create and schedule qualified discovery meetings with Senior Consultants
- Research target organizations and identify appropriate decision-makers to tailor outreach and messaging effectively
- Develop a working understanding of assigned industries and common organizational challenges
- Serve as an initial point of contact for new leads and inbound inquiries
- Share relevant insights, resources, or perspectives to add value in early conversations
- Attend select prospect meetings alongside Senior Consultants to deepen business acumen
- Build relationships with HR, L&D, and senior business leaders
- Participate in local networking events and business community activities
- Maintain accurate activity and notes in Salesforce CRM
- Continuously build understanding of Dale Carnegie’s solutions to position value appropriately
Qualifications
Required:
- 1–2 years of professional sales experience, ideally in B2B, business development, or a quota-driven environment
- High level of personal drive and competitiveness; this role requires persistence, self-motivation, and comfort with rejection
- Associate’s degree required; bachelor's degree preferred
- Motivated by the impact professional development has on people, teams, and organizations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to engage professionally with business leaders
- Strong organizational skills and follow-up discipline
- Comfort using CRM systems (Salesforce preferred)
- Microsoft Office proficiency
- Active LinkedIn profile
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Based in or willing to commute within Central/Southern New Jersey
Preferred:
- B2B sales experience
- Experience selling intangible, complex, or non-commodity solutions
- Experience using content, insights, or research to initiate sales conversations
- Familiarity with HR, L&D, or talent development environments
- Competitive background, such as athletics, or performance-driven environments, demonstrating resilience and accountability
