The Business Intelligence Analyst/Developer is a representative of the Information Services team and is responsible for establishing, fostering and maintaining positive business relationships with Shepherd co-workers; interdisciplinary workgroups; clinical department representatives; Piedmont Healthcare and Epic partners; and all other staff who use or interact with the Shepherd Center’s data and analytics capability.
The Business Intelligence Analyst/Developer is a member of a team that is responsible for all stages of the business intelligence lifecycle. The design, build, testing, validation, maintenance, and ongoing support of data and analytics needs across organization. To be successful in this role the Business Intelligence Analyst/Developer will demonstrate a deep desire to understand Shepherd Center processes and impacts on data, as well as contribute to goals and objectives of the organization as it relates to creating value from data. This role will include solutioning and innovating alongside partners such as operational SMEs, quality improvement analysts, research analysts and data scientists to create/maximize value from data by leveraging common business intelligence concepts and methodologies. Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with end users and analysts to research, analyze, and understand business requirements, expectations and operational workflows to meet objectives. Partner with data community to maintain alignment on hospital goals and strategy.
  • Ensure solution design and development process is compliant with department process, organizational policies and regulatory requirements such as HIPAA.
  • Contribute to a work environment of collaboration, critical thinking, respectful challenge and accountability to drive optimal results of assigned tasks.
  • Value an approach of supportability, scalability and reusability of delivered solutions
  • Demonstrate ownership of data requests and produce timely, high-quality data products, ad hoc requests, dashboards, and other analytics and data visualizations
  • Design, develop, validate, test, and implement data products from a variety of sources including Epic, per acceptance criteria and standards
  • Timely response and action provided to incident resolution within SLA’s. Participate proactively in issue prevention, communication, documentation, escalation, and resolution.
  • Acquire new skills on a consistent basis to meet the shifting demands of the data and analytics user community, drive efficiencies or expand overall capabilities.
  • Minimum Qualifications, Education, and Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university with major course work in computer science, information technology, engineering, data science, or equivalent related experience
  • Three(3) years of data analysis and development skills, such as SQL, validation, cleansing, modeling, visualization and presentation methodologies. Machine Learning experience and statistical programming background with languages such as R or Python are a plus.
  • Three(3) years of experience developing with market leading data and analytics tools. Preferably Power BI.
  • Experience in requirements gathering, design, development, and maintenance of data products used for analytical purposes.
  • Ability to perform gap analysis and provide recommendations to improve design of data collection tools and data governance processes
  • Possess exceptional organizational and communication skills in collaborative and independent settings
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three (3) years+ work experience performing operational data analysis and developing custom data products in a hospital or other healthcare setting leveraging the Epic EMR platform. Including hands on experience with Reporting Workbench, Radar and SlicerDicer.
  • Epic certifications specific to Cogito, Clarity, and Caboodle.
  • Experience working with cloud data platforms and applications in Microsoft Azure (Fabric, Synapse, Data Factory, Azure SQL) is a plus
  • Experience working with and/or presenting to leadership such as Directors or VP's
  • Manage multiple development efforts independently
  • Perform other related duties as required

Required Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a college or university with major course work in computer science, Information Technology, engineering, or equivalent related experience.

Required Minimum Certification:

  • Epic certification already exists or can be successfully obtained for a specific area of assigned responsibility within the first 90 days of employment.

Required Minimum Experience:

  • 3 years’ work experience performing clinical or financial reporting analysis and developing custom reports in a health care setting.

  • 2-3 years’ experience working with Structured Query Language (SQL) tools such as SAS, Business Objects Crystal Reports, QlikView, Microsoft SQL, Tableau, etc.

  • Experience working with relational databases, data warehousing technology and client-server applications.

Required Minimum Skills:

  • Proficiency in writing SQL queries, views, and stored procedures against a complex data model

  • Advanced knowledge of database concepts, use of data dictionaries and record viewers and other tools required to map data elements needed for reporting.

  • Significant T-SQL experience is needed for formatting and storing data in a fashion to support efficient access. Significant SAS Business Objects experience to assist in the design and maintenance of “Universes” and for providing education to enhance user knowledge with the Webi and Crystal Reports presentation tools.

  • Proficiency in both relational and dimensional modeling of databases.

  • Requires exceptional organizational and communication skills.

  • Must be results oriented with a positive "can do" attitude and a sense of urgency to get things done. A self-starter who enjoys a challenge and is dedicated to getting the job done.

  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with technical, clinical/financial teams, end users, partners and key stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with standard financial and operational concepts, as well as an understanding of healthcare preferred.

  • Experience with SSAS, the cubes development environment, is an added plus.

Physical Demands:

  • Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time or exerting up to 15 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

Working Conditions:

  • No potential for exposure to blood and body fluids.
