Business Manager

Christ & Holy Trinity Episcopal Church – Westport, Connecticut

Christ & Holy Trinity Episcopal Church is seeking a kind, detail-oriented, and self-directed Business Manager to oversee the administrative and financial operations of our vibrant parish community.

Located in downtown Westport, Christ & Holy Trinity is an active and growing church campus with a full rhythm of parish life, community gatherings, and ministry programs. During the school year, our CHT Preschool brings an energetic and joyful presence to campus life. This position plays a central role in supporting the financial integrity, stewardship, and day-to-day administrative operations of the parish.

The ideal candidate is organized, collaborative, service-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities with professionalism, discretion, and a good sense of humor.

Flexible workweek (20-25 hours); salary to be determined

Key Responsibilities

Bookkeeping & Financial Administration

  • Must be able to prepare and analyze financial statements
  • Work with Treasurer to maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records
  • Record and reconcile financial transactions including monthly journal entries.
  • Review monthly bank reconciliations and financial reports for accuracy
  • Track stock donations
  • Support timely and accurate financial data management and reporting

Cash Management & Accounts Processing

  • Manage banking relationships, including coordination with JPMorgan Chase
  • Prepare and process weekly deposits
  • Track and process all incoming and outgoing funds (checks, cash, credit cards, and stock transfers)
  • Process vendor invoices, reimbursements, and expense payments

Donations & Giving Management

  • Oversee all parish donation processing and cash handling procedures
  • Maintain contribution records within Realm
  • Prepare and distribute quarterly and annual giving statements
  • Ensure accurate, secure, and consistent handling of all donations

Payroll & Employment Administration

  • Manage payroll and employee benefits
  • Maintain employee records and confidential documentation
  • Prepare annual 1099 forms
  • Serve as liaison with the Diocese for employee onboarding and offboarding
  • Ensure compliance with diocesan employment policies and procedures

Budget Planning & Financial Reporting

  • Assist the Rector, Treasurer, and staff in preparing the annual operating budget
  • Monitor budget-to-actual performance and identify trends, variances, and areas of concern
  • Provide quarterly budget reports for ministry and account leaders as needed
  • Support preparation of financial, stewardship, campaign, and property-related reports

Audit, Compliance & Parish Reporting

  • Assist with preparation for the annual financial audit
  • Support preparation of the Annual Report and Episcopal Church Parochial Report
  • Maintain organized and compliant financial and administrative records

Required Skills

  • Bookkeeping, general accounting and office/business management
  • Experience with financial reports and records
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and Dropbox
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets (Excel or Google Sheets)
  • Ability to learn and manage church management software (Realm)
