Business Manager - Head Start Program

What You'll Do:

The Business Manager for the Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans Head Start Program oversees both financial operations and human resources functions under the supervision of the Program Director. This leadership role requires professionalism, independent judgment, ethical standards, and strong communication, organizational, and computer skills. Key responsibilities include collaborating on the program budget, monitoring grant revenue and expenses, approving purchases, ensuring accurate financial reporting, managing employee relations, and assisting with hiring and exit processes. The position also works closely with the Head Start Leadership Team to ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and applicable laws and regulations.

Business Manager Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Finance Department and Program Director to develop the annual program budget
  • Monitors grant revenue and program expenses throughout the year
  • Processes and routes contracts
  • Approves purchases and ensures spending remains within budget
  • Ensures accurate coding of all expenses
  • Provides financial reports and budget updates
  • Works with the Agency's HR Director and HR Department to manage employee relations matters
  • Assists with personnel paperwork for hiring and employee separation processes
  • Supports HR administrative functions and compliance requirements

LeadershipCompliance Responsibilities

  • Participates as a member of the Head Start Leadership Team
  • Collaborates to ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards
  • Ensures adherence to applicable local and state laws and regulations

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance, public administration, or a related field from an accredited institution recognized by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional-level experience
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills
  • At least 1–2 years of Human Resources experience with exposure to personnel and employee relations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently manage multiple tasks
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Experience managing federal grants preferred

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to pass a yearly physical exam and TB test
  • Ability to comply with agency-mandated background checks, including fingerprinting, as required by the agency and/or Louisiana Licensing Agency and Department of Children and Families
  • Visual acuity within professionally determined normal ranges, with correction if needed
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to handle cleaning supplies and equipment
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills
  • Ability to learn and understand information from procedure manuals and related materials
  • Ability to physically move throughout the center and classrooms
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Experience working effectively as part of a team preferred
  • Experience working successfully with culturally diverse staff and clients preferred

Schedule:

  • Monday - Friday
  • 8am-4pm
