SUMMARY

The Buyer is responsible for compiling and maintaining records of business transactions and office activities of the purchasing department by performing the following duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Include the following duties and responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Negotiate price, delivery, and service levels with current and potential new vendors for the purchase of raw materials, products, and services for the Company.
  • Copies data and compiles reports and records
  • Purchases supplies
  • Data entry of purchase orders.
  • Calling, faxing, or mailing to vendors new purchase orders.
  • Assisting other departments when required.
  • Reviews requisitions.
  • Confers with vendors to obtain product or service information such as price, availability, and delivery schedule.
  • Prepares purchase orders or bid requests.
  • Contacts vendors to find out the status of order.
  • Contacts vendors with discrepancies with quantity and quality.
  • Interfaces with other departments and resolves problems and issues regarding purchased items.
  • Reviews bid proposals and negotiates contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority.
  • Regular and consistent job attendance required, with or without reasonable accommodation in accordance with the ADA.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals, contract agreements, and business periodicals.

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively with vendors or employees in person or by telephone.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in varied situations.
  • Knowledge of international procurement (L/C, custom procedures, on-site inspections, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Government Contracting regulations (vendor requirements, etc.)
  • Knowledge of various contract formats, their application, and their legalities.
  • Computer utilization skills, including PC based programs.
  • Knowledge of MRP functions and techniques related to purchasing of raw materials and components.
  • Ability to negotiate contractual agreements with vendors.
  • Ability to effectively evaluate performance of vendors.
  • The ability and skills to establish and maintain priorities.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

High school diploma; or one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and depreciation.
