Kid to Kid buys and sells gently used children’s clothes, shoes, toys, books, and baby gear—helping local families save money and shop sustainably. Our Jersey Village team is upbeat, fast-moving, and serious about quality and safety.

Role snapshot

As a Buyer, you’re the expert at our buy counter—evaluating items, pricing to guide, and making fair offers that keep families happy and our shelves full. You’ll combine product knowledge with speed, accuracy, and great communication.

What you’ll do

• Evaluate incoming items for condition, style, season, brand, and demand; decline items outside our standards.
• Price to our guide and margin targets; explain offers clearly and confidently (cash vs. store credit options).
• Safety first: Follow company rules on recalls, safety checks, cleanliness, and functionality (e.g., battery doors, straps, hardware, small parts).
• Tag & process fast: Create tickets, tag, steam/clean as needed, and route to the right rack or department.
• Merchandising assist: Restock hot categories, maintain size runs, and help with small floor sets/signage.
• Data & accuracy: Enter buys correctly, keep digital/paperwork tidy, and balance your cash drawer.
• Customer experience: Greet sellers/buyers, answer product questions, resolve small issues, and invite customers to join our VIP text club.
• Teamwork: Support omni tasks (BOPIS/ship-from-store), inventory counts, and daily cleaning checklists.

What you bring

• Retail, resale, thrift, or consignment experience a plus (we’ll train the right person).
• Sharp eye for kids’ brands, quality, and current trends; comfortable using a pricing/buy guide.
• Clear, friendly communicator who can negotiate with empathy and stay calm when busy.
• Fast, accurate worker who loves checklists and hitting goals.
• Tech-comfortable (POS/buying software, basic spreadsheets).
• Able to stand/walk most of the shift and lift up to 35–40 lbs; frequent bending and reaching.
• Evenings/weekends required; bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.

Schedule & pay

• Status: Part-time or Full-time (20–38 hrs/wk)
• Shifts: Mix of opening/mid/closing; weekends required
• Pay: $14.50–$15.65/hour DOE + performance incentives (buy accuracy, items processed/hour, sales add-ons)

• Buy accuracy & margin: Offer variance vs. pricing guide; realized gross margin
• Speed & throughput: Items processed/hour; time-to-floor
• Quality & safety: Recall compliance, condition standards, and return rates
• Customer love: Positive reviews/feedback from sellers and shoppers
• Team impact: Reliability, communication, and willingness to jump in where needed
