Buyer (Part-time)

SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Purchasing Manager, the incumbent purchases materials and/or services for the casino in accordance with Purchasing Department procedures and Casino internal controls.


ESSENTIAL SKILLS, DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Purchase’s products in proper quantities which maximizes service levels and inventory turns
  • Negotiates the best prices, programs, and promotions
  • Perform needed tracking and updates to maintain zero tolerance pricing errors
  • Evaluates competitive suppliers, products, prices, and programs and presents comparisons to department management
  • Attends trade shows and mini shows as needed to review product
  • Reviews and research opportunities to reduce “overall costs” through new vendors or negotiations with current vendors. The term “overall costs” takes into consideration many non-monetary considerations to include timeliness of delivery, quality, reliability, and related factors.
  • Wherever possible, consolidates purchases to take advantage of any quantity discounts available
  • Maintains adequate vendor information files, and when necessary, acquires from vendors information required for regulatory or tax purposes.
  • Reviews requisitions.
  • Confers with vendors to obtain product or service information such as price, availability, substitutions, and delivery schedules
  • Estimates values according to knowledge of market price
  • Prepares purchase orders and /or bid requests as required
  • Reviews bid proposals and negotiates contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority
  • Maintains procurement records such as items or services purchased costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories.
  • Discusses defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel, users, vendors, and others to determine source of trouble and take corrective action
  • Completes special projects as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3 -5 years purchasing experience in a casino or hospitality environment or equivalent combination of education and experience (required).
  • Strong negotiation and contract management skills
  • Knowledge of the supply chain process (i.e., purchasing)
  • Project management skills
  • Experience with SWS preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Detail oriented and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Should possess strong organization and follow-up skills
  • A valid Driver’s license (required)

EDUCATION:

High School Diploma or GED (required). Undergraduate degree in business (Purchasing emphasis) from an accredited college or university (preferred)


LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen, background investigation, and maintain a Pauma Gaming Commission License.


PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: (*Constant, Frequently, Occasionally)

  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds
  • Constantly walking and standing
  • Constant hearing, seeing, and talking
  • Constantly balancing, bending, reaching, twisting, holding, wrist motion, and stooping

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work may be performed indoors or outdoors
  • Indoor work is in a climate-controlled environment; in close spaces while working with others
  • Outdoor environment may include warehouse and conditions such as: cold, extreme heat, wet, noise, fumes, dust, excessive noise, and smoke.
