Penn Manufacturing Industries (PMI) is a rapidly growing and successful machining and assembly company with global operations. It is seeking a Buyer/Plannerfor its location in Montgomeryville, Pennsylvania (Zip: 18936) to support its strong growth.

Job Responsibilities

Purchasing & Procurement

  • Source, negotiate, and purchase raw materials, components, hardware, electrical components, machined parts and outside services in support of production schedules.
  • Issue and manage purchase orders; track order status and expedite as required to prevent production shortages
  • Expedite open orders to ensure confirmed delivery dates are met
  • Develop and maintain supplier relationships; evaluate supplier performance based on quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Follow up on late orders and confirm pending deliveries on open orders
  • File order confirmations and ensure pricing, quantities, delivery dates are correct in the company’s ERP system
  • Maintains a professional working relationship with suppliers to ensure their continued support to provide quality products and services in a timely manner
  • Work with suppliers to resolve documentation, quality, or delivery-related problems
  • Coordinate material returns and participate in MRB meetings
  • Provide weekly project material status updates to support Manufacturing, Project Management and Service functions
  • Execute other tasks as assigned and in support of the Supply Chain Department

Production Planning & Inventory Control

  • Analyze MRP (Material Requirements Planning) output to plan and release work orders and purchase orders.
  • Monitor and adjust inventory levels to support production needs while minimizing excess and obsolete stock.
  • Collaborate with production scheduling to align material availability with build schedules.
  • Manage lead times, safety stock levels, and reorder points within the ERP/MRP system.
  • Participate in physical inventory counts and reconcile discrepancies.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Coordinate with engineering on new product introductions, ECOs (Engineering Change Orders), and BOM (Bill of Materials) accuracy.
  • Work with quality to manage nonconforming material, supplier corrective actions, and return-to-vendor (RTV) processes.
  • Support finance with accruals, invoice reconciliation, and cost reporting.
  • Communicate supply risks and mitigation plans to management proactively.

Continuous Improvement

  • Major plus but not required: Previous experience with reading and interpreting detailed BOMs, blueprints, assembly prints, assembly instructions, part prints, and tolerance requirements. Any experience from manufacturing environment, especially experience purchasing machined parts, is a plus.
  • Support lean and continuous improvement initiatives within the supply chain function.
  • Maintain accurate data within the ERP system including vendor master, item master, and purchase order history.
  • Identify and implement cost reduction opportunities through supplier negotiations, consolidation, and process improvements.

Education

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Operations, or a related field preferred; equivalent work experience considered.

Experience

  • 3–5 years of experience in purchasing, planning, or a combined buyer/planner role, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems required.
  • Proven track record of supplier negotiation and relationship management.
  • Experience in a job shop, make-to-order, or engineer-to-order manufacturing environment a plus.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles a plus.
  • APICS CPIM or CPM certification a plus.
  • Experience with JobBOSS (ECi JobBOSS or JobBOSS²) is a strong plus.

Pay: From $60,000.00 per year
