Forest City Cabinets is a high-end custom residential cabinetry manufacturer serving designers and select builders in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. We specialize in technically complex, fully custom work fabricated in-house within a controlled manufacturing environment.

This role is not aesthetic design. It is engineering, problem-solving, and making custom cabinetry buildable, repeatable, and scalable.

The Role

We are hiring a Cabinet Engineer / Technical Designer to translate design intent into precise, build-ready documentation. This person will work directly with ownership and production to turn complex one-off decisions into repeatable systems.

This is a hands-on, thinking role. You will learn how cabinets actually get built—and why.

What You Will Do

• Produce shop drawings and technical documentation for custom cabinetry
• Resolve site conditions, tolerances, and installation constraints before production
• Create bills of material and build logic
• Work directly with the shop to refine standards and reduce rework
• Capture decision logic and contribute to internal engineering standards

What You Will NOT Do

• Create aesthetic designs
• Sell jobs or negotiate scope
• Manage clients
• Make schedule promises

What We’re Looking For

• Strong spatial reasoning and problem-solving ability
• CAD experience required, we can train on our specific platform
• CNC programing experience is a plus, training is available as well
• Comfort with ambiguity and learning in a real shop environment
• Curiosity about why things are done a certain way

Cabinetmaking experience is a plus, not a requirement.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 - $45.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
