Strata Networks is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Underground Utility Locator Technician to join our team. In this role, you will locate and mark buried fiber optic, phone, and CATV utilities using specialized equipment and utility maps. The ideal candidate is reliable, independent, safety-focused, and able to thrive in fast-paced and challenging environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret utility maps, prints, and aerial imagery to identify underground assets.

  • Review locate requests and plan travel routes to meet timelines and productivity goals.

  • Operate handheld detection equipment to accurately locate buried fiber, phone, and CATV cables.

  • Mark utility locations using spray paint, flags, and other tools in roadways, public areas, and private property.

  • Maintain professionalism and clear communication with supervisors, homeowners, contractors, and field teams.

  • Work on-call hours as needed.

  • Perform general route maintenance including digging holes for posts, placing ground rods, running ground wires, and replacing or installing marker signs.

  • Follow all safety protocols and utilize PPE and safety equipment provided.

What We’re Looking For

  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to drive extensively.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

  • Comfortable working in a variety of environments including construction sites, rural areas, highways, industrial areas, and private property.

  • Ability to work in confined spaces.

  • Knowledge of Utah state laws and APWA uniform color codes is a plus.

  • Must pass a drug screening.

  • Ability to complete documentation on a laptop and submit reports in a timely manner.

Working Conditions

  • Work outdoors in all terrain and weather conditions (rain, heat, cold, mud, uneven ground, etc.).

  • Frequent vehicle entry and exit and walking several miles per day.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs using provided tools (e.g., manhole cover lifting tool).
