Strata is hiring an Underground Utility Locator Technician to support operations in Lehi, Utah and surrounding areas. This position is responsible for locating and marking underground fiber optic, telephone, and CATV utilities using utility prints and specialized locating equipment. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, self-motivated, and able to work independently in outdoor environments.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret utility maps, prints, and aerial imagery

  • Review and prioritize locate requests to plan efficient routes and meet timelines

  • Operate handheld locating and detection equipment

  • Mark underground utilities on roadways, private property, and job sites using spray paint, flags, and markers

  • Work in confined spaces as required

  • Follow Utah state laws, APWA uniform color codes, and marking guidelines

  • Wear and properly use the required safety gear at all times

  • Communicate daily with supervisors, crews, homeowners, contractors, and utility representatives

  • Work on-call hours as required

  • Perform outside plant maintenance tasks, including digging holes, placing ground rods, running ground wires, and replacing marker signs

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive extensively

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work professionally in fast-paced and sometimes stressful environments

  • Strong time-management skills and ability to work independently

  • Proficient with laptop use to document and submit tickets through a ticket management system

  • Ability to pass a drug screening

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Outdoor work in Lehi, Utah, across varied terrain, construction sites, and weather conditions

  • Ability to lift up to 100 pounds using a manhole cover removal tool

  • Frequent driving, walking several miles per day, and repeated vehicle entry/exit
