CAD Designer

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented CAD Designer / Engineer with strong experience in design to support the development of custom marine furniture and upholstery components. This role bridges design, engineering, and production, translating concepts and measurements into accurate CAD files that support manufacturing, pattern making, and installation in marine environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create, modify, and maintain Rhino CAD (or similar software) 3D and 2D models for marine furniture, seating, cushions, and related components
  • Convert measurements, sketches, and concepts into production-ready CAD files
  • Develop layouts, templates, and cut files for CNC, sewing/pattern making, or fabrication workflows
  • Collaborate closely with:
  • Pattern makers / sewing team
  • Upholstery and production staff
  • Operations leadership
  • Ensure designs account for:
  • Marine-grade materials
  • Structural integrity
  • Ergonomics and comfort
  • Installation constraints and hardware
  • Revise designs based on prototype feedback, fit issues, or production improvements
  • Maintain organized CAD libraries, file naming standards, and version control
  • Assist with design problem-solving when production or fit issues arise
  • Support continuous improvement of design-to-production processes

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience using Rhino CAD or similar software
  • Strong understanding of 2D and 3D CAD modeling
  • Experience designing for manufacturing or fabrication
  • Ability to interpret measurements, technical drawings, and real-world constraints
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in marine, automotive, furniture, or upholstery design
  • Familiarity with:
  • CNC workflows
  • Pattern making or sewing processes
  • Marine furniture or interior components
  • Engineering or technical design background
  • Experience with prototypes, revisions, and production scaling
  • Understanding of marine-grade materials (vinyls, foams, substrates, fasteners, etc.)

Skills & Competencies

  • Rhino CAD (preferred)
  • Spatial reasoning and 3D visualization
  • Problem-solving and iterative design
  • Organization and file management
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment
  • Comfort receiving and implementing feedback

Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
