Position Overview
The Piping CAD Designer is responsible for developing detailed 2D and 3D models and construction drawings for HVAC piping, plumbing, and process piping systems. This role works closely with project managers, engineers, BIM coordinators, and field personnel to ensure designs are accurate, coordinated, and constructible. The ideal candidate has strong piping system knowledge and is proficient in AutoCAD 3D and Revit.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Drafting
- Produce accurate 2D and 3D piping drawings for HVAC piping, plumbing, and process piping systems.
- Convert sketches, design concepts, and engineering inputs into coordinated construction documents.
- Develop detailed spool drawings, isometric piping drawings, and as-built documentation.
- Update drawings and models based on field conditions, RFIs, and approved revisions.
Coordination & Collaboration
- Coordinate piping layouts with architectural, structural, and other trade systems within the project model.
- Participate in MEP coordination meetings and assist with clash detection using tools such as Navisworks or Revit.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field supervisors to ensure constructibility and adherence to project requirements.
Technical & Quality Control
- Follow and maintain company CAD/BIM standards, including layer management, families, and file organization.
- Ensure all drawings and models align with project specifications, codes, and piping standards.
- Support the creation and refinement of drafting templates, workflows, and best practices.
Documentation & Support
- Prepare documentation packages for permitting, fabrication, and installation.
- Assist with material take-offs and piping system quantity lists.
- Provide technical CAD support for project teams and field personnel as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Proficiency in AutoCAD 3D and Revit (required).
- Experience with HVAC piping, plumbing, and process piping systems.
- Ability to interpret mechanical plans, piping schematics, specifications, and relevant codes.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organization.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within project teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Navisworks or other BIM coordination platforms.
- Prior work experience in a mechanical contracting or MEP environment focused on piping.
- Knowledge of ASME, ASTM, IPC, IMC, and other mechanical piping standards.
- Familiarity with pipe fabrication and installation processes.

Pay: $40.00 - $46.00 per hour
