CAD Drafter and Survey Technician

The CAD Drafter and Survey Technician supports the Engineering Team by assisting with design-to-build civil engineering projects including fiber optic installations and utilities. The role reports to the Lead Engineer and works with the Project Coordination and Project Management Teams.

Responsibilities include:
  • Read and interpret civil engineering construction specifications and plan sets
  • Create technical drawings/plans and corresponding specifications and materials
  • Apply design elements including materials mixtures, roads, subdivision layouts, and storm/sanitary sewer systems
  • Estimate materials quantities for construction projects
  • Collaborate with the Lead Engineer and Project Managers to understand project requirements and specifications
  • Maintain organized records of all drafts, revisions, and final designs
  • Use land surveying tools to collect data needed to produce topographic maps, establish horizontal and vertical control, and lay out civil engineering projects
  • Utilizes principles of math, science, and engineering to analyze and solve problems
  • Communicate with internal and external partners to articulate contract specifications and construction drawings
  • Test asphalt, concrete, and soils
  • Observe and inspect construction related activities
Required Qualifications
  • Able to interpret technical drawings and specifications accurately
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, MS Office, Smartsheet, and able to efficiently learn new business software tools
  • Create KMZ files
  • Knowledgeable in use of GPS equipment
  • Effectively flexes working between field and office environments
  • Certificate or Degree in engineering design or land surveying, or related
  • Valid Driver License
Physical Requirements
  • Able to work in inclement conditions including cold or warm temperatures
  • Able to walk, climb stairs and ladders, stoop, kneel, and crouch
  • Able to reach overhead, to the side, and in front with hands and arms
  • Able to give and receive verbal directives
  • Must have 20/20 vision or wear corrective eyewear to satisfy sight requirement
  • Required to satisfy the State of Wisconsin mandated requirements for:
o peripheral vision
o depth perception
o color correct vision and hue saturation
