Position Summary
The Café Barista prepares and serves coffee, beverages, and light food items while delivering excellent customer service. This role maintains a clean, welcoming café environment and supports daily café operations including cash handling, food safety, and inventory awareness. The Barista represents the café through professional service, efficiency, and product knowledge.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service
Greet customers and provide a friendly, professional experience.
Take accurate food and beverage orders using the point-of-sale (POS) system.
Answer customer questions regarding menu items, ingredients, and preparation methods.
Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.
Beverage & Food Preparation
Prepare espresso-based drinks, coffee, tea, and specialty beverages according to café standards.
Warm and prepare light food items such as pastries, sandwiches, or snacks.
Ensure beverages and food items meet quality and presentation standards.
Cash Handling & POS
Operate the POS system to process cash, credit card, and digital payments.
Maintain accurate cash drawer and follow established cash handling procedures.
Provide receipts and maintain transaction accuracy.
Cleanliness & Food Safety
Maintain a clean work area, including counters, equipment, and seating areas.
Follow food safety, sanitation, and health regulations at all times.
Restock supplies such as cups, lids, napkins, and ingredients.
Operational Support
Assist with opening and closing duties including equipment setup, cleaning, and inventory checks.
Monitor inventory levels and report shortages to management.
Support team members during peak hours to ensure efficient service.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Prior café, food service, or customer service experience preferred.
Skills
Strong customer service and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Basic math skills for handling payments and transactions.
Ability to multitask and maintain attention to detail.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand for extended periods.
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
Frequent reaching, bending, and repetitive hand movements.
Work Schedule
Flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
