We are seeking a skilled Cake Maker / Commis 1 – Pastry to support our pastry kitchen with daily production and custom cake orders. The ideal candidate can bake consistent sponge cakes, apply neat and smooth cream frosting, and maintain excellent quality and hygiene standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and bake sponge and butter cakes (vanilla, chocolate, red velvet, etc.) according to standard recipes and production schedules.
  • Level, fill and stack cake layers; apply crumb coat and smooth final cream frosting.
  • Prepare and handle creams such as fresh cream, buttercream and ganache for fillings and coatings.
  • Perform basic piping work (borders, simple designs, writing) and decorate cakes using sprinkles, fruits or chocolate.
  • Assist with simple pastry items such as cupcakes, muffins and basic dessert components as needed.
  • Follow portioning, quality and presentation standards to ensure consistency.
  • Store cakes and creams correctly; label, date and monitor shelf life and freshness.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of workstations, tools and equipment in line with HACCP and food safety guidelines.
  • Work collaboratively with the pastry team and follow instructions from senior chefs to support smooth production flow.

Requirements

  • 1–2 years of experience in a bakery, pastry shop, hotel or café, specifically in cake baking and cream frosting. Talented freshers may be considered.
  • Strong basic baking skills: scaling, mixing, baking evenly, checking doneness and cooling.
  • Practical experience in cream frosting with smooth finishes, basic piping and careful handling of cakes.
  • Basic understanding of food safety, personal hygiene and proper handling of dairy and cream products. HACCP/food handler certification is an advantage.
  • Ability to follow recipes, SOPs, work under pressure and meet daily production targets.
  • Willing to work shifts, weekends and public holidays as required.
  • Basic English communication skills; additional languages are an advantage.

Job Type: Full-time
