Camp Counselor ~ Weaverville Summer Day Camp

The Trinity County Resource Conservation District (TCRCD) is accepting applications for temporary Camp Counselor positions for the Weaverville Summer Day Camp. Camp Counselors work under the direct supervision of the Weaverville Summer Day Camp Coordinator. This is a temporary, seasonal position scheduled Monday through Friday, approximately 40 hours per week (an average of 8 hours per day), for four weeks between June 23 and July 27, 2026. District employees are subject to normal management reviews and serve at the discretion of the Board of Directors. This position does not include medical benefits.

Camp Counselors are responsible for supervising children and assisting with the delivery of a safe, structured, and engaging summer day camp program. Duties include supervision of campers, facilitation of activities, and support of daily camp operations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Experience working with children and youth, such as babysitting, childcare, camp programs, school, church, or family care.
  • Ability to work effectively with children from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to follow instructions, exercise good judgment, and problem-solve.
  • Ability to maintain a positive and professional demeanor in a dynamic work environment.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will be dependable, positive, and comfortable working in an active outdoor setting with youth. Strong communication skills and prior camp or recreation experience are beneficial.

DUTIES:

  • Attend required training and planning sessions prior to camp, including first aid/CPR, mandated reporter, and counselor trainings.
  • Supervise or co-supervise groups of approximately 10–15 children ages 8–13.
  • Lead and assist with daily camp activities, games, team-building exercises, and field trips.
  • Serve as a positive role model and enforce camp rules and safety procedures.
  • Address minor medical needs of campers and report significant medical or safety concerns to the Camp Coordinator.
  • Communicate issues, concerns, or incidents to the Camp Coordinator in a timely manner.
  • Assist with daily clean-up, organization, and general camp maintenance.
  • Collaborate with fellow counselors to support camp programming and activities.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position is primarily active and outdoor-based, requiring standing, walking, and participation in recreational activities for extended periods. Some indoor program support may be required.

BENEFITS:
This is a temporary seasonal position and does not include medical or retirement benefits.

STARTING SALARY RANGE:
$20.00 per hour.
