Position Type / Expected Hours of Work:

This is a seasonal position that works on average 20-29 hours a week, any day of the week (Monday through Sunday). Additional hours may be required. This is a variable hour position and schedule will change based on camp reservations at the discretion of the Director of Camp Services and/or CEO. Camp is held June 22nd, through July 24th, 2026. Must also be available for three days of training prior to camp.

Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Camp Food Service Cook, the kitchen aide assists with the daily preparation, serving, and clean-up of all meals/snacks for various camp programs. During downtime, additional assistance throughout the camp job site may be required.

Essential Functions:

The essential functions of this position include:

  • Assist with the daily preparation of all camp meals/snacks in an institutional cook setting under the direction of the Camp Food Service Cook.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the site by cleaning food prep and serving areas by packaging and storing leftover food, washing dishes, equipment and utensils, mopping floors and performing other such custodial tasks as assigned.
  • Assist with meal preparation by moving stock in or out of the pantry or coolers, paring and cutting vegetables or other ingredients, placing food on trays for baking, and setting up food serving and salad bar areas.
  • Distribute/serve food to participants and staff; coordinate portion controls to ensure all applicable individuals have received proper nourishment.
  • Maintaining excellent customer service skills; greet, make general conversation with, and interact with participants and staff in a professional and friendly manner at all times.

Education/Talent Requirements:

  • The ability to read and follow simple, written instructions.
  • Must exhibit professional grooming and hygiene standards, as well as maintain a high level of knowledge in regard to sanitation in a food setting area.
  • Must have the ability to work respectfully and courteously with a wide variety of individuals, including individuals with disabilities.

Work Experience Requirements:

  • This is an entry level position, no previous experience required.
  • Central Registry Clearance mandatory: clearance check will be performed by Pioneer Resources.

Travel:

No travel is required for this position; however, daily commute to Pioneer Trails camp worksite is required (1421 E Fruitvale Rd, Holton, MI 49425). Must have reliable transportation to and from worksite in personal vehicle.

Work Environment:

This employee usually works in a camp kitchen environment but may be required to perform job duties outside of this typical setting. Camp is located in a wooded area on Blue Lake. Although most tasks are performed in an indoor setting, outdoor duties may be required. Exposure to outdoor elements, seasonal temperatures, and various natural pests, should be expected and tolerable. Temperatures higher than normal indoor settings should also be expected while cooking appliances, such as ovens, are in use. Moderate to loud noises while preparing, serving and observing the consumption of meals/snacks is to be expected. Must have the ability to work in a confined area. This position works in close proximity to people.

Physical Demands of the Job:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, bend, lift, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers in the application for various tasks. May be required to reach, stoop, bend, or lift for extended periods of time to complete required duties. Occasional light lifting up to 50 lbs may be expected. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as washing and sanitizing dishes, pots/pans, utensils and inspecting them for cleanliness, as well as other various visual inspection requirements.
