Camp Parkwood Sports Specialist

About the Role:

The Camp Parkwood Sports Specialist plays a pivotal role in delivering an engaging, safe, and educational sports experience for campers of various ages and skill levels. This position is responsible for designing, organizing, and leading a diverse range of sports activities that promote physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The specialist will work closely with camp staff to ensure all programs align with Camp Parkwood’s mission to foster personal growth and a love for active living. Additionally, the role involves implementing strategies to engage campers and utilizing behavior management techniques to create a positive environment.

Candidates must be able to attend mandatory orientation on June 9, June 10, and June 14 at 4:30pm at Stepping Stone Park

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with children in a sports or recreational setting.
  • Basic knowledge of multiple sports rules, techniques, and safety practices.
  • Current certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Major in Physical Education, Sports Management, Recreation, or related field.
  • Previous experience as a sports coach or camp counselor.
  • Experience working with children in various settings such as childcare, sports coaching, or babysitting
  • Ability to lead specialized sports clinics

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, and lead daily sports activities.
  • Ensure all sports programs are conducted safely and in accordance with camp policies and safety guidelines.
  • Provide instruction and coaching to campers, helping them develop skills, confidence, and teamwork.
  • Collaborate with other camp staff to integrate sports activities with broader camp programming and special events.
  • Maintain sports equipment and facilities, reporting any maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
  • Monitor camper behavior and progress, offering positive reinforcement and addressing any issues constructively.
  • Adapt activities to accommodate different age groups, skill levels, and physical abilities.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to continuously improve program quality and camper experience.

The Camp Parkwood Sports Specialist uses their knowledge of sports rules and techniques daily to design engaging and age-appropriate activities that foster skill development and enjoyment. Strong communication skills are essential for effectively instructing campers and collaborating with fellow staff members to ensure a cohesive program. Leadership and motivational skills help the specialist encourage campers to participate actively and build confidence in their abilities. Additionally, safety awareness and first aid skills are applied continuously to maintain a secure environment and respond promptly to any incidents.
