Summary:
The primary focus of this position is to produce campground design plans utilizing AutoCAD that will be used by campground owners to build new or improve existing campgrounds. This position requires a great deal of collaboration with the design team, other departments, Franchisees, vendors and more. You will need to use both technical and creative skills to prepare construction drawings and designs that adhere to KOA standards, design criteria and industry building codes. Other duties will include supporting company initiatives for sustainability, accessibility and forward-thinking technology on campgrounds. Effective communication and presentation skills are a must.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Produce scaled design drawings in AutoCAD that adhere to company standards and industry code requirements.
  • Use AutoCAD to create, update and modify campground sites plans, buildings, amenities, and other campground related plans and detail libraries.
  • Be able to interpret sketches and concepts into completed design documents.
  • Develop knowledge base of electrical codes and standards to create site electrical plans.
  • Track and organize multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Professionally represent the KOA brand while working with KOA franchisees for new design projects and redesigning existing structures.
  • Establish and maintain a good working relationship with campground owners and managers, product vendors, other departments and design team.
  • Participate in the reporting of departmental projects and measurement tracking.

Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and present, when necessary, program and educational information at KOA University, Managers school and the annual KOA Convention.
  • Assist with initiatives and programs related to the ‘Kamp Green’ and ‘Campground of the Future’ programs.
Required Education and Experience:
  • Associates degree or higher and minimum 2+ years of AutoCAD and work experience in related fields such as architecture, landscape design, hospitality design, construction management or similar.
  • AutoCAD proficiency.
  • Time management and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to read landscape, engineering and building design construction documents.
  • Base knowledge of ADA and other construction codes and standards.
Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Knowledge of sustainable land planning and building practices.
  • Outgoing and engaging personality with the ability to interact with individuals and large groups.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Concise communication and presentation skills (written and verbal).
  • A passion for camping a plus!
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboard, including plotting drawings, using a measuring tape and lifting and carrying a laptop and other small items up to 25 pounds.
  • Prolonged exposure to computer screens and artificial lighting.
  • Use of repetitive motion, standing, bending, sitting, lifting, and walking short distances.
  • May be expected to travel via air or vehicle to KOA locations, other locations as directed, and conferences which requires close and distance vision, sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, other vehicles, etc. Travel occurs in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
  • Frequent in person interaction with KOA employees in various settings, where noise level is typically low to moderate, including office spaces.
  • Will experience occasional interruptions and shifting priorities.
