Central Virginia Community College is located in Lynchburg, Virginia, in view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. CVCC is a comprehensive two-year institution of higher education with an enrollment of approximately 5,000 students in occupational/technical programs and university-parallel/college transfer programs.
This position provides managerial support and law enforcement activities to promote CVCC emergency and safety programs and to prepare the college for emergencies and recovery from them, while maintaining campus operations. Under the direction of the Law Enforcement Manager I, the position is responsible for planning, coordinating, maintaining, and updating the Colleges emergency/crisis management/safety plans including coordination of training programs and emergency operation drills, assisting departments with their emergency and mitigation plans, and assisting as needed in the college's emergency plan and annexes. Coordinates training programs in conformance with National Incident Management System (NIMS), local/state/federal regulations, operating procedures and best practices and emergency management concepts.
As sworn law enforcement officer the position is responsible for maintaining order and protection of life and property through ensuring the enforcement of laws, ordinances and college policy within the CVCC jurisdiction. Officers are expected to fairly enforce all applicable federal, state, local laws and ordinances as well as policies of CVCC.
This position has been designated an essential position. The employee filling this position may be required to report to work or otherwise fulfill the responsibilities of the position in the event of a college/campus closure due to weather or other emergent condition(s).
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience with homeland security, emergency management, safety/security, police science, or a combination of equivalent education, or related certificate programs. Progressive experience working in an occupational safety and security position with considerable experience conducting safety inspections, investigations, and the preparation of emergency and safety plans and the delivery of relevant training programs. Must be at least 21 years of age. Current law enforcement officer certification or ability to obtain from department of Criminal Justice Services is required. No criminal record: a background investigation will be completed. Note: Federal law prohibits a person convicted of domestic violence from possession of a firearm. Be certified or able to obtain DCJS certificate as a police officer in the State of Virginia. Those without current certification must successfully complete basic law enforcement training program at a DCJS sanctioned police academy in the State of Virginia. Certification must be obtained within 12 months of employment or as directed by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services. Be able to certify as a Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) operator. Must possess certification or be able to complete required training in basic first aid, adult and child CPR/AED (Automated External Defibrillator). Ability to qualify for certification in use of a firearm and all approved and issued police equipment. Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Virginia driver's license.
Additional Considerations:
Associate's degree in criminal justice
