Job Description:The Campus Police Sergeant supervises shift officers and manages daily operations to ensure the effective delivery of campus safety and police services. This role is dedicated to protecting Dean College property and supporting the safety and well-being of the campus community, while upholding the department's mission to maintain a secure and welcoming environment.
Position responsibilities include:
- Supervise shift officers, ensuring operational effectiveness, adherence to policies, and high standards of professional conduct.

Patrol campus buildings and grounds to deter crime, vandalism, theft, and other violations of law or college policies.

Respond to, investigate, and document incidents, policy violations, and criminal activity.

Refer cases to the Office of Community Standards when appropriate, investigate accidents, and provide guidance and information to the campus community.

Foster positive relationships between the police department and the campus community through proactive engagement, education, and daily interactions.

Review and approve reports, citations, and other required administrative documentation.

Oversee officer scheduling, performance evaluations, coaching, and ongoing training initiatives.

Develop and implement educational programs and safety training tailored to campus needs and emerging safety trends.

Provide additional security at college-sponsored events as required.

Deliver transportation and escort services, including walking or vehicle safety escorts, and non-emergency medical transports to local facilities.

Perform other duties as assigned to support the safety and security mission of the college.
Job Requirements:
Qualifications and Requirements
- Associate's degree in criminal justice or a related field required; bachelor's degree preferred.

5-7 years of sworn law enforcement experience, preferably in campus or community-oriented policing.

Massachusetts POST certification (or eligibility) and MPTC full-time police academy certification.

Valid, unrestricted driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Valid Massachusetts License to Carry Firearms (Large Capacity) in accordance with MGL Chapter 140, Section 131.

Successful completion of a comprehensive background investigation, medical exam, and psychological evaluation.

Flexibility to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and during campus emergencies and events.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong knowledge of criminal law, investigative procedures, campus policing practices, CJIS, and Clery Act compliance.

Demonstrated leadership, supervisory, mentoring, and team-building experience.

Experience supervising and evaluating sworn and civilian personnel.

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills, particularly in a campus environment.

Professional and effective interaction with students, faculty, staff, and the public.

Proven judgment in handling sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism.

Sound decision-making in emergency and high-pressure situations.

Proficiency in report writing and maintaining detailed, accurate records.

Collaborative approach to working with college administration, student affairs, and community partners.

Experience with staffing, scheduling, and shift management.
