Campus Security Manager - Temporary Position

Salary Information: Annual Minimum Salary-$58,400-Annual Maximum Salary-$93,400

Hiring Rate: $36.06-$38.46

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Pro-rated based on hours/week.

Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences (PNWU) was founded as a 501(c) (3) non-profit medical institution in 2005 aimed at increasing access to health care in medically underserved areas of the Pacific Northwest.

The University currently offers the degrees of Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, Doctor of Physical Therapy, Doctor of Dental Medicine, Master of Arts in Medical Science, and Master of Science in Occupational Therapy enrolling over 550 students annually with plans to develop other programs and/or colleges. Interprofessional education partnerships with other universities adds another 100 students to the population. The campus includes 300 employees with academic programming spread over a five-state region.

PNWU is located in Yakima, WA, a city of approximately 95,000 located in the south-central part of the state near the eastern slopes of the Cascade Mountains in a major agricultural and outdoor recreation region. General Summary:

The temporary Campus Security Manager provides interim leadership and operational oversight of the University’s campus safety and contracted security services. This role ensures the effective coordination of day-to-day security operations, timely response to incidents and after-hours calls, and support of institutional risk mitigation efforts, including participation in the University’s Threat Assessment and CARE Teams.

The position serves as the primary liaison between the University and its contracted security provider, ensuring compliance with contractual standards, alignment with institutional policies, and consistent delivery of safety services across campus. The Manager works in close collaboration with Facilities, Human Resources, other campus constituents, as well as external emergency response partners, to maintain a safe and secure learning and working environment.


This is a temporary, full-time appointment anticipated to last six to nine months. Continuation is subject to institutional need and funding.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide direct oversight of contracted security personnel and vendor performance, including schedule coordination, post coverage, incident reporting standards, and quality assurance review.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for security-related issues, responding to after-hours and weekend calls as necessary and ensuring appropriate follow-up and documentation.
  • Support and actively participate in the University’s Threat Assessment Team by assisting with case coordination, documentation, and implementation of recommended safety measures.
  • Oversee general campus safety operations, including access control protocols, emergency preparedness coordination, key and card access oversight (as applicable), and safety-related communications.
  • Review and monitor incident reports, ensuring timely review, trend analysis, and escalation when appropriate.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations related to campus safety, including support for Clery-related processes as directed.
  • Coordinate with Facilities to address environmental safety concerns, lighting, physical security improvements, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Develop interim recommendations to strengthen campus safety operations, including assessment of contracted services, response protocols, and communication workflows.
  • Support training and tabletop exercises related to emergency response and threat management.
  • Maintain professional working relationships with local law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency medical services.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned and based on departmental need.
Requirements:

Education:

  • Required: Associate's Degree
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree

Experience:

  • Required:
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in campus safety, law enforcement, security management, or emergency response
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing security operations or contracted services
  • Experience participating in threat assessment, behavioral intervention, or multidisciplinary safety teams
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including incident documentation and policy interpretation
  • Preferred:
  • Prior experience in higher education or healthcare settings
  • Experience in a higher education setting
  • Experience with access control systems, camera systems, and security technology platforms
  • Five years' experience

Skill in coordinating and monitoring the work of others; skill in effective communication (both written and oral); skill in independent decision making; skill in performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature; skill in problem solving; knowledge of Clery Act reporting requirements and campus emergency management frameworks; knowledge of customer service principles and practices; ability to maintain professional composure in emergent and crisis situations; and ability to operate relevant equipment required to complete assigned responsibilities for the position
