The Certified Cancer Registrar is a credentialed professional responsible for the abstraction, coding, and reporting of oncology data to ensure compliance with internal, state, and national requirements. This role serves as a subject matter expert, maintaining data quality and mentoring Level 1 registrars in best practices.
This is a remote position open to Arkansas residents and qualified candidates willing to relocate to Arkansas.
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Independently compiles, analyzes, abstracts, and codes oncology data from the EMR using STORE, SEER, ICD-O, and AJCC manuals.

Conducts case finding and ensures timely, accurate follow-up for all eligible cases.

Prepares reports and data submissions for regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders.

Maintains registry compliance with NCRA and other applicable standards.

Mentors and provides oversight for Level 1 Cancer Registry Associates.

Stays current with registry requirements through continuing education and professional engagement.
OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS: Travel to CARTI Cancer Center and Clinic locations outside of Little Rock as required.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, REGISTRATION:

Associate’s degree or completion of at least 60 college-level credits (any field) from an accredited institution. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Current Oncology Data Specialist (ODS; formerly CTR) certification from the National Cancer Registrars Association.
- Grandfathering Clause: Individuals holding a valid ODS/CTR credential conferred under prior education requirements remain eligible if certification is maintained in good standing. No new hires may substitute a high school diploma for the current education requirement.
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:
- Minimum of 1 year of work experience in one or more of the following areas: cancer registry, medical records/health information management, data abstraction, or healthcare-related data entry.

Advanced knowledge of cancer registry processes, staging, coding, and abstraction preferred.

Strong proficiency with EMR systems, registry software, and Microsoft Office.

Effective interpersonal communication skills and strict adherence to confidentiality.

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
