The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the rental fleet's maintenance, repair, and overall condition. This role ensures the fleet is safe, compliant with all regulations, minimizes vehicle downtime, and maximizes vehicle lifespan and residual value. The manager leads the maintenance team, manages the repair budget, and coordinates with external vendors and operations to support seamless rental activity.
Fleet Maintenance and Repair
- Oversee all maintenance activities: Plan, schedule, and supervise all preventative maintenance (PM), routine servicing, and complex repairs for the entire fleet (cars, vans, SUVs, etc.).
- Manage Downtime: Develop and implement strategies to minimize Vehicle Off-Road (VOR) time and maximize fleet utilization.
- Quality Control: Inspect and approve the quality of all completed repairs, whether in-house or by third-party vendors.
- Breakdown Management: Manage the company's roadside assistance and recovery process, ensuring rapid and cost-effective resolution to vehicle breakdowns.
Team and Vendor Management
- Staff Leadership: Hire, train, mentor, and manage a team of mechanics, technicians, and maintenance staff. Conduct performance reviews and manage scheduling.
- Vendor Relations: Negotiate contracts and manage relationships with external repair shops, parts suppliers, and specialty service providers to ensure cost-effectiveness and quality.
Compliance and Safety
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all vehicles comply with local, state, and national safety and emissions regulations (e.g., annual inspections, licensing).
- Safety Standards: Implement and enforce strict safety procedures in the workshop, ensuring a safe working environment and that all repairs meet the highest safety standards for the renters.
Administration and Budgeting
- Budget Management: Develop and manage the annual maintenance budget, controlling costs for parts, labor, and external services.
- Record Keeping: Oversee the accurate tracking of maintenance records, vehicle history, mileage logs, and warranty claims using fleet management software.
- Reporting: Generate regular reports on fleet condition, maintenance costs, efficiency, and projected capital expenditures for vehicle replacement.
Inventory and Asset Management
- Parts Inventory: Manage the inventory of spare parts and consumables, ensuring adequate stock while avoiding excessive carrying costs.
- Tools and Equipment: Ensure the workshop is equipped with the necessary tools and diagnostic equipment, maintaining them in good working order.
