Job Description & Skills:

Car Mechanic (also known as an Automotive Technician) is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and performing routine maintenance on vehicles to ensure they are safe and functioning properly. They work on various systems including engines, brakes, transmissions, steering, electrical systems, and more.

Key Responsibilities:

• Inspect vehicles for mechanical issues and safety concerns.
• Diagnose and repair engine problems, brake systems, suspension, transmission, and other components.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire rotations, filter replacements, and fluid checks.
• Use diagnostic tools and equipment to identify issues.
• Repair or replace parts using hand tools and power tools.
• Communicate repair needs and cost estimates to customers or service advisors.
• Keep accurate records of work performed and parts used.
• Stay updated on automotive technology and repair techniques.
• Follow safety procedures and environmental regulations.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

Technical Skills:

• Strong knowledge of automotive systems (engine, transmission, brakes, etc.).
• Proficiency with diagnostic tools and computerized equipment.
• Ability to read technical manuals and schematics.
• Experience with welding, electrical repair, and component replacement.

Soft Skills:

• Problem-solving: Ability to diagnose complex mechanical issues quickly and accurately.
• Attention to detail: Precise and careful in identifying problems and performing repairs.
• Communication: Able to explain technical issues to customers clearly.
• Time management: Ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines.
• Teamwork: Work well with other mechanics, service advisors, and shop staff.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED (required).
• Vocational training or associate degree in automotive technology (preferred).
• Certification from organizations like ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) is a plus.
• Physical ability to lift heavy parts, bend, kneel, and stand for long periods.
