POSITION: School Bus MechanicREPORTS TO: Director of Transportation, Mechanic ForemanJOB SUMMARY: Plan, schedule, repair and perform diagnostics on Concord Public Schools transportation fleet including; school buses, medium and heavy-duty trucks, vans, cars, and related equipment; Ensure fleet vehicles are in safe operating condition in accordance with state, and federal requirements.QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Minimum 3 years of documented experience repairing and servicing school buses or heavy-duty trucks.2. Experience with auto body, electrical, transmission, and brakes3. The ability to work in an indoor garage, with some outside work, and lift up to 85 pounds.4.
A valid Massachusetts CDL Class A or B with passenger(P), school bus(S), and airbrake endorsements, or ability to obtain through our training program5. Safe driving record6. Pass random drug and alcohol testingESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Work and communicate with a diverse group of drivers, mechanics, and staff.
Exhibit communication skills conducive to effective and efficient customer service2. Perform preventative maintenance service and inspection of all vehicles3. Repair all brake types4. Identify unsafe vehicle conditions5.
Perform tune-ups and engine repair on diesel and gasoline engines6. Perform electrical troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs on all vehicles7. Repair leaf spring, air suspensions, and all drive line components8. Provide basic body repair9.
Change, balance, and repair car, truck, and bus tires10. Weld various equipment11. Meet district standards for performance and attendance 12. Maintain cleanliness of garage space, break room, locker room, and bus parking area13.
Drive routes, drop trips, and perform other duties if called upon by management14. Must be available on weekends on a rotating basis15. Snow plow & removal operation to keep the bus terminal clear16. Balancing, crouching, grasping, pulling, reaching, and stooping may also be requiredSKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Skills are required to perform single, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job requirements.
Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include but are not limited to; operate equipment used in vehicle maintenance, record keeping, and using pertinent software applications. The ability to work safely and independently especially when required to perform emergency repairs in the field.
