Car Wash Attendant/Detailer

Description:

Under direct supervision, responsible for effectively maintaining a safe and secure wash bay while washing and detailing cars, cranes, trailers, trucks, and other equipment. May be required to work long hours and be exposed to outdoor weather conditions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Working knowledge of the practices, methods, and materials used in the wash process of cars, cranes, trailers, trucks, passenger vehicles, and equipment. Knowledge of the parts of cars and trucks, tools, and other necessary equipment. Ability to climb heights and conduct work with proper safety restraints and to stand over long periods of time. Ability to lift items of moderate weight. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; willingness to perform routine and heavy manual work for an extended period under difficult weather conditions; good physical condition. Ability to follow directions and correctly implement tasks. Should be willing to be mentored by veteran employees to build skills and possibly move to growth positions. Must be highly motivated and able to prioritize multiple tasks and to meet deadlines. Ability to work under pressure effectively. Demonstrates strong customer focus skills, teamwork, and communication skills. Excellent oral and written communications and human relations skills.

Education, Training, and Experience

Completion of ninth grade required. High school diploma or GED preferred. Possession of a valid Maryland Class C driver’s license. Experience in the general maintenance of vehicles preferred. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform in the position may be considered.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities

• Conducts all business in a professional, respectful manner and in accordance with Digging & Rigging Inc.’s policies and procedures and outlined in the Compact of Respect.
• Participates in wash process, uses car wash equipment appropriately, and dries and waxes exterior of vehicles after cleaning.
• Scrubs heavily soiled and hard to reach areas of vehicles, and pre-wash exterior areas of cars, cranes, trailers, trucks, and equipment.
• Vacuums and shampoos car interior, including floor mats and seats.
• Cleans windshields and windows and checks fluid levels.
• Carries out periodic maintenance of equipment used in washing to keep them in proper working order.
• Performs cleaning of facility and ensures everything is organized and kept in the appropriate place.
• Helps customers in any area concerning car wash process.
• Applies water hoses, nozzles, brushes, soap buckets, broom, hand tools, pressure washer, and grease gun.
• Moves or directs vehicles into the wash area with a pleasant, focused, and competent attitude.
• Carries out visual inspection of vehicles to confirm their condition before sending them into the wash area.
• Ensures vacuums are unclogged, trash cans emptied, and hoses properly hung.
• Performs related assignments as required.

Special Requirements

• Occasional exposure to extreme temperatures, fumes, and airborne particles with a moderate noise level.
• Possible extended workdays, long hours, and standing over long periods of time.
• Wearing of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Must be reliable, punctual, and able to function at a high level as part of a team.
• Must be able to pass a background check, drug test, and DOT physical.
