A car wash maintenance technician is responsible for the proper functioning and upkeep of car wash equipment and facility systems, which includes performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues, and conducting regular inspections to ensure equipment runs efficiently and safely. They also need strong mechanical and electrical skills, the ability to use diagnostic tools and repair manuals, and may assist with attendant duties when necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Preventative Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections and preventative maintenance on car wash machinery, including brushes, conveyor systems, pumps, and control panels.
- Equipment Repair: Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic malfunctions in car wash equipment using manufacturer manuals and technical specifications.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve issues with car wash equipment and systems to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
- System Maintenance: Maintain and repair other facility systems, such as ventilation and plumbing, to keep the car wash operational.
- Safety & Cleanliness: Maintain a safe and clean work environment, adhering to safety protocols when working with machinery and chemicals.
- Inventory & Parts Management: Track parts used for repairs, identify when equipment needs replacement or upgrading, and manage inventory for spare parts.
- Record Keeping: Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment status.
Skills & Qualifications
- Technical Skills: Strong mechanical and electrical knowledge, including the ability to read wiring diagrams and use diagnostic tools.
- Repair Expertise: Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and electronic test equipment for diagnosing and repairing equipment.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot complex issues, identify solutions, and apply technical specifications and manuals to guide repairs.
- Communication: Effective communication skills for interacting with technical support teams, customers, and other staff.
- Physical Demands: Ability to work in various weather conditions, potentially in cramped spaces, and to wear protective gear when exposed to chemicals.
- Experience: Experience with car wash equipment is often preferred, along with vocational training in related mechanical or electrical fields.
Work Environment
- May work both indoors in car wash facilities or mechanic shops and outdoors in various weather conditions.
- May work in confined spaces within equipment.
- Often exposed to chemicals and requires the use of protective clothing like gloves.
