Job Title: Cargo Claims Coordinator

Department: Cargo Services, Flight Operations

Reports To: Manager, Cargo Services

POSITION PURPOSE:

This position would investigate, evaluate, and adjusts claims for lost and/or damaged cargo. Performs other claims adjusting functions and projects for the Air Cargo Claims department. This position directly reports to the Manager of Cargo Services within the Operations Control Center (OCC) in Ypsilanti, MI.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Evaluates and settles Kalitta Air cargo claims for missing and damaged cargo
• Evaluates claims for reasonableness, necessary action, liability, and compliance with federal regulations, IATA rules and contract provisions, standard IATA claim practices and procedures and internal Kalitta claims policies.

• Investigates and gathers information necessary to allocate settlement to the responsible parties.
• Demonstrates decision-making authority and takes initiative to consider settlement options outside of the standard claims settlement guidelines.
• Performs extensive communication with agents, shipping customers, warehouse installations, government bureaus, national account contacts, and Kalitta personnel.
• Observes Montreal Protocol with regards to claim timeframes and follow up
• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration OR equivalent experience.
• 2-5 years experience in Business and/or a minimum of one year experience in airline cargo claims preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, write and understand spoken and written English. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

Travel for training as required

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Employees will perform duties in an office environment with heating and cooling. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
