Job Summary
40 HOUR DAY SHIFT
Summary:
Under general direction of the carpentry supervisor of leader in charge performs routine carpentry tasks in the construction, maintenance and repair of wood structures, fixtures, and furnishings according to blueprints, drawings, and specific instructions.
May be required to carry the on-call pager.
May be required to work weekends on rotating shifts.

Essential Functions:
- Performs general carpentry tasks such as demolishing and rebuilding walls, installing suspended ceilings, and installing drywall.
- Designs, builds, installs and/or repairs shelves, bulletin boards, desktops, cabinets, and partitions according to blueprints or drawings.
- Installs doors, frames windows and wall shelves.
- Hangs doors, sets frames, and fixes door closers and hinges.
- Builds a variety of fixtures on request such as picture frames and coat racks.
- Estimates time required and supplies needed for carpentry projects.
- Operates hand and power tools such as saws, lathes, handsaws, sanders, drills, drill pressers, hammers to complete the work efficiently and safely.
- Performs minor repairs of hospital furniture such as repairing broken chairs, desks, etc.
- Responds to requests for carpentry services as requested.
- Maintains and controls an inventory of parts and supplies for door hardware.
- Installs and maintains doors, door closures, crash bars, exit devices as well as any miscellaneous door hardware, excluding the locks.
- Recommends hardware specifications for projects as required.
- Attends and actively participates in department, team and one on one meetings with supervisor.
- Provides updates in shift huddles with team members to ensure continuity of services across shifts.
- Maintains a safe and clean work environment in areas where work is performed and in Engineering department.
- Closes work order in Maximo to maintain an accurate record of services provided.
- Completes work in accordance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Supports team members to problem solve and complete work orders to meet customer needs.
- Upholds BWH values and customer service standards in all interactions within and outside of the Engineering Department.
Education Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? Licenses and Credentials Experience 2 years of technical training or related experience required and Direct carpentry experience in wood constructions, maintenance and repair 2-3 years required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Must be able to read, write and perform arithmetic calculations to read and interpret drawings and sketches and complete accurate measurements. - Requires knowledge of carpentry skills such as cabinet making. - Must be able to operate safely and efficiently a variety of hand and power tools. - Work requires the ability to lift lumber, doors, and heavy times (over 30 lbs.) regularly.
