About Superior Home Co
Superior Home Co is a residential home repair and remodeling company based in Stillwell, Kansas. We take pride in delivering quality craftsmanship to homeowners throughout the area — from the first nail to the final cleanup. We are a team of skilled tradespeople who hold ourselves to a high standard: show up prepared, do the work right, and leave every job site looking better than we found it. We are growing and looking for a seasoned carpenter craftsman who is serious about their trade, takes pride in their work, and wants to be part of a company that values quality above all else.
Position Summary
The Carpenter Craftsman is a skilled, experienced field tradesperson responsible for executing a wide range of exterior and interior residential projects. This is a hands-on, in-the-field role. The right person can move fluidly between an exterior window installation in the morning and an interior trim project in the afternoon — and make both look like a professional did them, because one did. You will work directly with homeowners, manage your tools and materials, follow our Field Readiness SOP, and represent Superior Home Co with professionalism on every job site.
Primary Responsibilities
Exterior Work
-Install, replace, and repair windows — including insulated glass units (IGUs), single and double-hung, casement, and picture windows
-Set and hang all door types: entry doors, patio doors, storm doors, and sliding glass doors; including framing, shimming, weatherstripping, and hardware installation
-Install and repair all siding types including vinyl, fiber cement (Hardie), wood, and engineered wood; including J-channel, trim, and flashing details
- Build, repair, and refinish residential decks — framing, ledger attachment, decking, railings, and stairs in compliance with local codes
-Perform exterior trim and fascia work; caulking and sealing at all penetrations and transitions
-Identify and correct wood rot, water damage, and failed flashing before completing exterior installations
Professionalism & Site Standards
-Arrive on time, prepared, with all tools and materials staged for the day's work orders
- Place a Superior Home Co yard sign in the customer's yard on every job
-Tarp the work area before any cutting, demo, or material handling
-Wear shoe covers before entering any interior space Keep the work area clean and organized throughout the job — not just at the end
-Leave every job site cleaner and better than you found it — this is non-negotiable
-Walk completed work with the customer, confirm satisfaction, and collect sign-off
-Take completion photos and close work orders in the company app before departing
Team & Communication
-Work independently on solo jobs and as a lead or crew member on larger projects
-Communicate clearly with dispatch about scope changes (change orders), material needs, and write a paragraph or two on every job and add it to job notes.
Interior Remodeling
-Perform finish carpentry including door and window casing, base and crown molding, wainscoting, and built-ins
-Execute interior door installations, pocket doors, barn doors, and closet systems
-Assist with or lead bathroom, kitchen, basement remodels at the carpentry scope — cabinet installation, countertop fitting, and finish work
-Perform drywall patching and repair to a paint-ready standard
- Install hardwood, LVP, and tile flooring as needed Recognize scope beyond your ticket and communicate it to dispatch — never improvise unauthorized work
-Mentor junior technicians on trade skills and company standards when working with a crew
- Comply with all Superior Home Co rules, policies, and procedures including the Field Readiness SOP
-Submit accurate time and materials documentation for every work order
-Return all unused materials and company property to the warehouse or respective supplier at the end of each day
Required Qualifications
Experience & Trade
-Minimum 5 years of hands-on residential carpentry experience — exterior and interior
-Demonstrated experience installing and repairing windows, including insulated glass units
-Proven ability to hang and frame all types of residential doors to a plumb, level, and square standard
-Hands-on experience installing vinyl, fiber cement, or wood siding with proper flashing and trim details
- Experience building or repairing decks from framing through railings — IRC code knowledge a plus
- Interior finish carpentry skills: trim, molding, casing, and built-ins to a fine finish standard
-Ability to read a tape measure to 1/16" and read simple construction drawings or WO diagrams
-Working knowledge of building science: water management, flashing sequencing, air sealing at penetrations
Tools & Physical Requirements
-Own a complete set of professional hand tools and basic power tools
-Proficient with circular saw, miter saw, jigsaw, reciprocating saw, drill/driver, and impact driver
- Able to work at heights — on ladders and scaffolding — safely and comfortably
-Able to lift and carry 75 lbs unassisted; regularly lift 50 lbs
-Comfortable working outdoors in all Kansas weather conditions
-Valid driver's license with a clean driving record — will operate company vehicle
Work Style
-Self-directed and accountable — you don't need someone standing over you to do the job right
- Detail-oriented: you notice when something is off by 1/8" and you fix it
- Customer-facing confidence — you can walk a homeowner through what you did and why
-Problem solver: when the scope changes on site, you communicate it rather than improvise around it
