GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Case Manager/Career Counselor is responsible for assessment of applicant needs and abilities, Employability Development Planning, participant enrollment, counseling throughout the training period and follow-up subsequent to placement.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Chief Program Officer.
DUTIES PERFORMED:
- Assessing the applicant's needs and abilities, to include interpreting test results and interest inventories and analyzing the client's personal circumstances. These factors are then compared with available training opportunities. If the applicant's attributes and circumstances indicate a readiness to enter available occupational training, the Counselor will begin the Employability Development Plan. If a determination is made that the client is in need of services other than those available through VIDA, the counselor refers the applicant to appropriate service agencies.
- Conducting a one-on-one interview with the applicant for the purpose of preparing the Employability Development plan; the counselor will use all information collected on the applicant. The Plan will identify the applicant's eligibility for training, to include thc targeted occupation; the identification of required objectives in basic skills, life skills and workplace skills; and the identification of supportive services needed to facilitate participation in training.
- Preparing complete profiles on applicant to evaluate commitment and aptitude as well as developing viable career tracks and financial assistance plans to ensure completion of training.
- Presenting applicant profiles to the Compliance/Program Manager for approval of enrollment into training programs.
- Scheduling weekly counseling meetings with participants at school campus. These meetings will serve to maintain participant and counselor contact and provide an opportunity for motivation/ workplace skills training and/ or time for problem solving throughout the participants training period.
- Tracking all participant progress weekly and providing necessary intervention (inclusive of home visits) to assure the successful completion of training.
- Perform outreach weekly and as needed.
- Conduct participant follow-ups in accordance with VIDA’s follow-up policy.
- Abel to travel all 4 counties in the Rio Grande Valley.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education or social work with experience in case management, interpretation of standardized education and aptitude tests, occupational training and individual and group counseling. Working knowledge of employment and training programs, federal, state and local regulations, as well as social services available in the area. Basic familiarity with computers, including data entry and basic commands, knowledge of Windows Operating System and data spreadsheet software is highly desirable.
