Summary

Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Case Manager provides field-based, trauma-informed support through the City of Los Angeles’ Unarmed Model of Crisis Response (UMCR) program. This position is part of a specialized response team that receives non-violent crisis calls from a centralized dispatch system. Calls may involve individuals experiencing mental health challenges, substance use, behavioral distress, conflict resolution needs, suicide risk, welfare checks, or other social service concerns.

The Case Manager provides compassionate, timely intervention, including crisis de-escalation, risk assessment, wellness checks, and linkage to resources, while working collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team and community partners.


Salary Range:
$23.00 – $26.78 per hour, DOE


Key Responsibilities

Crisis Response & Intervention

  • Respond to non-violent calls from centralized dispatch, including wellness checks, behavioral health needs, substance use concerns, and verbal disputes.
  • Provide field-based crisis intervention, including de-escalation, risk assessment, and stabilization.
  • Deliver a trauma-informed and compassionate response to individuals in distress.

Case Management & Resource Linkage

  • Connect clients to housing, medical, mental health, and substance use services.
  • Provide field-based support and facilitate integration into community resources.
  • Document all client interactions accurately and in compliance with program standards.

Collaboration & Documentation

  • Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and community partners.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to mandatory reporting requirements.
  • Participate in supervision, team meetings, and ongoing training.

Other Duties

  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support program operations.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Minimum one (1) year of case management or street outreach experience with unhoused or vulnerable populations.
  • Valid California Driver’s License, clean driving record (past 3 years), and insurability under agency policy.
  • Completion of Live Scan fingerprinting and comprehensive background check.

Preferred

  • B.A. or B.S. degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related field.
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing mental health and substance use challenges.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Prior crisis response, de-escalation, or harm reduction experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to travel throughout the Los Angeles service area.

Work Schedule & Setting

  • Full-time, 12-hour shifts (9:00 a.m. – 9:30 p.m. or 9:00 p.m. – 9:30 a.m.).
  • Rotating schedule: three-day work week followed by a four-day work week (Monday – Sunday).
  • Day, evening, overnight, and weekend shifts assigned as scheduled.
  • No on-call responsibilities when not on shift.
  • Overtime paid for hours worked beyond 12 per shift.

  • Company vehicle provided for field work.
  • Company-issued mobile device and laptop provided.
  • Mileage reimbursement available when personal vehicle use is required.

Training & Support

  • Comprehensive paid training, including safety, crisis intervention, and de-escalation.
  • Regular supervision and case review.
  • Ongoing professional development and support.

Service Area

  • Primary Office: Los Angeles (field-based).
  • Corporate Office: Culver City, CA (periodic meetings required).
  • Relocation to the Los Angeles area required prior to start date.
