Vilas County is currently hiring a Caseworker or Social Worker in the Department of Human Services. This position allows those without the State of Wisconsin Social Work licensure an opportunity to provide intake and on-going case management duties pursuant to their respective state statutes as outlined in Wisconsin State Statutes Chapter 46, 48, 54, 55, and 938.

Position Summary: The Vilas County Youth Justice Caseworker/Social Worker provides court intake and ongoing dispositional responsibilities as outlined in Chapter 938 of the Wisconsin Juvenile Justice Code.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Under State of Wisconsin Chapter 938 criteria, performs actions in accordance with state statutes which includes but is not limited to conducting intake inquiries, referring cases to the District Attorney for further action, and ongoing caseload.
2. Supervises and works with juveniles and their families pursuant to court-ordered and voluntary cases. This includes, but is not limited to, supervision of youth to establish and ensure compliance with their orders and treatment plans, working with the families to assess, teach, intervene as necessary, and obtaining appropriate services as needed or desired for the youth.
3. Monitors juveniles to comply with their court-ordered or voluntary case plan. This includes, but is not limited to, job assignment counseling, mental health counseling, AODA counseling, complying with an education program, restitution program (including keeping accurate records of restitution accounts and notification of victims), community service obligations, victim/witness program, and any other court ordered conditions.
4. Sets and enforces compliance with court orders including implementing short term detentions pending investigation and providing crisis counseling during the emergency intake process when necessary.
5. Arranges and monitors out-of-home placements for juveniles when in-home and/or community risk warrants removal.
6. Communicates clearly with juveniles in language understandable by the juvenile; interacts effectively with a variety of different ethnic, economic and cultural communities.
7. Utilizes electronic monitors on juveniles and oversees the secure placement as appropriate.
8. Assists in the provision of custody intake services pursuant to the provisions of Chapters 48 and 938 of the Wisconsin Statutes.
9. Keeps accurate records in the state eWISACWIS database; writes succinct case notes of daily contact and legal reports and completes accurate and timely assessments and screening documents.
10. During business hours, participates in a formal rotating access system for Youth Justice, Adult and Child Protective Service units pursuant to applicable statutory guidelines. Also, part of a formal rotating on-call system providing after-hour intake services for the YJ, APS and CPS units pursuant to applicable statutory guidelines.
11. With supervisor's approval, participates in meetings/committees appropriate to YJ issues.
12. Consults with supervisor on cases, including case status.
13. Attends required training to maintain social work licensure.
14. Provides mentoring and support to caseworkers, to include but not limited to: on-the-job training, guidance and support during challenging cases.
15. Assists with emergency planning activities, such as registration, relocation and shelter for persons subject to disasters and participates in callouts for emergencies as advised by the Emergency Management Department.
16. Performs other related duties as assigned, including cross-training and collaborative support across service areas (e.g., APS, YJ, CPS). Staff may be assigned cases outside their primary program area with the necessary training and supervision.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Education/Licensure:
4-Year degree is required in related field such as Sociology, Psychology, Human Services Education, Criminal Justice, etc.
Licensure/Certification: Required
· Valid WI Driver's license and insurance coverage as required by state.
· Current State of Wisconsin Social Work license.
· Within six months of hire, must successfully complete Basic Intake Worker Training.
· Within one year of hire must successfully complete WSCWPDS Youth Justice Development Program.
