Cashier/Customer Service

Job Summary
We are seeking a friendly and efficient Cashier to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing excellent customer service while accurately processing transactions and providing product suggestions and information. This role requires a keen attention to detail and the ability to communicate effectively with customers and team members. As a Cashier, you will play a vital role in ensuring a positive shopping experience for our customers.

Responsibilities

• Accurately process sales transactions using the Point of Sale (POS) system
• Handle cash, credit, and debit transactions while ensuring compliance with cash-handling procedures
• Provide exceptional customer service by greeting customers, providing suggestions, answering questions, and resolving issues
• Checks and confirms the identification of the customer
• Stay up to date with product information and business promotions
• Assist with merchandising and cleaning as directed
• Upsell products and promote special offers to enhance the customer experience
• Assist with product choices and provide information about products and brands to customers
• Maintain cleanliness and organization at the checkout area.
• Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient store operations
• Perform basic math calculations to ensure accurate pricing and change distribution
• Performs other related duties as assigned

Skills

• Strong communication skills to interact effectively with customers and colleagues
• Experience with cash handling and familiarity with POS systems
• Ability to upsell products and engage with customers
• Excellent customer service skills
• Good verbal communication skills
• Ability to operate available equipment, such as cash registers, calculators, or scanners
• Basic mathematical skills, as needed to make change and give refunds
• Knowledgeable about the company products and customer-related policies
• Supervisory skills are a plus, as this role may involve training new cashiers or handling checkout operations in busy periods
• Previous experience in a grocery store or retail environment is preferred but not required

• Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing, and challenging environment
• Works well in a group environment
• Minimum 21 years of age
• Must possess valid driver’s license or state ID
• Must pass any and all required background checks
• Strong attention to detail and ability to adhere to strict policies and procedure
• Ability to maintain quality with repetitive assignments

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Successful completion of on-the-job training and state-required training
