Cashier/Customer Service (SWING SHIFT)

Shifts would be 9am/10:30am to 4pm and 3:45pm to 8pm. MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR BOTH.

A Cashier position at Livoti's Old World Market involves overseeing daily front-end operations, ensuring high standards of customer service, and managing front-end staff like cashiers and baggers.

Key duties and responsibilities

Operations and staff management

  • Ensure efficiency: Monitor and manage workflow at the checkout and customer service desks, keeping lines and the overall area clear and uncluttered.
  • Maintain store policies: Enforce policies related to cash handling, accepting checks, selling alcohol, and ensuring all legal requirements are met.
  • Problem resolution: Handle customer complaints and staff issues, reporting policy violations to the store manager as needed.
  • Coordinate with other departments: Work with other department managers to ensure proper pricing, display signage, and the return of perishable items to stock.

Customer service and store aesthetics

  • Provide excellent customer service: Greet customers, promptly respond to their needs and questions, and resolve issues to ensure a positive shopping experience.
  • Oversee product displays: Help build and maintain attractive displays at the front of the store and ensure merchandise is properly priced and faced.
  • Manage inventory: Control and order front-end supplies and merchandise, and ensure products are rotated and out-of-code items are removed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety: Ensure the front-end area and checkouts are clean, organized, and free of safety hazards like spills.

Financial and administrative

  • Cash handling and security: Oversee cash handling, reconcile tills, process daily deposits, and protect company assets by securing unattended registers.
  • Administrative tasks: Handle bookkeeping and administrative procedures, manage courtesy desk workflow, and respond to incoming mail and phone calls.
  • Record keeping: Accurately record pricing errors, voids, refunds, markups, and markdowns.

Qualifications and required skills

  • Experience: retail and customer service, and knowledge of retail operations and administrative procedures.
  • Interpersonal skills: Excellent communication and leadership skills, a friendly and outgoing personality, and the ability to motivate a team.
  • Problem-solving: Strong decision-making skills, the ability to handle multiple demands calmly under pressure, and a good judgment.
  • Technical and administrative: Familiarity with POS systems, basic math proficiency, and attention to detail.
  • Physical requirements: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, and lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Availability: Flexibility to work holidays and weekends, as they are often busy times for the market.
