The Cath Lab In-Charge is responsible for the overall management and smooth functioning of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. This role includes supervising staff, ensuring patient safety, maintaining equipment, coordinating procedures, and ensuring compliance with clinical protocols and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

A. Operational Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day functioning of the Cath Lab.
  • Ensure timely scheduling and coordination of angiography, angioplasty, pacemaker, ICD, CRT, peripheral interventions, and other procedures.
  • Monitor adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Ensure readiness of Cath Lab before each procedure (sterility, equipment, consumables).
  • Coordinate with cardiologists, anesthetists, technicians, nurses, and support staff.

B. Clinical Responsibilities

  • Ensure proper patient preparation before procedures (consent, vitals, investigations, allergies).
  • Monitor patient status during the procedure along with the team.
  • Oversee post-procedure care and shift-out protocols.
  • Ensure strict infection control protocols including aseptic techniques.
  • Maintain patient safety and quality care standards.

C. Administrative Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage the Cath Lab nursing and technical team.
  • Prepare duty rosters and manage staffing according to workload.
  • Ensure documentation of procedures, medication, consumables, and reports.
  • Manage inventory of drugs, devices, stents, consumables, and emergency equipment.

D. Equipment & Maintenance

  • Ensure functioning of cath lab machines (C-arm, monitors, injectors, defibrillator, oxygen supply, suction).
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance and calibration with Bio-Medical Engineering.
  • Maintain equipment logs and breakdown reports.

E. Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure NABH standards are maintained in Cath Lab.
  • Conduct audits on sterility, medication, crash cart, and infection control.
  • Implement quality improvement initiatives.
  • Train staff on protocols, emergency management, and new devices.

F. Emergency Management

  • Be prepared to handle cardiac emergencies, code blue situations, or complications during procedures.
  • Ensure emergency drugs and crash cart are updated and functional.

3. Required Qualifications

  • B.Sc. Nursing / GNM / B.Sc. Cardiac Technology / Diploma in Cath Lab Technology.
  • Minimum 5–6 years of Cath Lab experience; at least 1–2 years in a supervisory or senior role.

4. Skills & Competencies

  • Strong clinical knowledge of cardiac procedures.
  • Leadership and team-management skills.
  • Excellent communication and coordination abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage emergencies.
  • Strong understanding of equipment handling and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of NABH standards and documentation.

5. Working Conditions

  • Shift-based duties depending on hospital policy.
  • On-call duties during emergency cardiac cases.
  • Exposure to radiation with necessary protection protocols.
