Job Summary

The Cathodic Protection (CP) Designer is responsible for designing, calculating, and preparing engineering documents for cathodic protection systems used to protect pipelines, tanks, vessels, marine structures, and buried metallic assets from corrosion. The role includes preparing design calculations, drawings, material take-offs, specifications, and supporting installation and commissioning activities in accordance with project specifications and international standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare cathodic protection design basis and engineering calculations.
  • Design impressed current (ICCP) and sacrificial anode (galvanic) CP systems.
  • Calculate current requirements, anode quantities, anode bed layouts, cable sizing, and transformer rectifier ratings.
  • Prepare AutoCAD drawings including:
  • CP layout drawings
  • Anode bed layouts
  • Cable routing drawings
  • Test station details
  • Junction box details
  • Typical installation drawings
  • Prepare material take-off (MTO) and bill of materials (BOM).
  • Prepare datasheets and technical specifications for CP equipment.
  • Review vendor documents and technical submittals.
  • Perform voltage drop calculations and interference studies.
  • Coordinate with civil, electrical, piping, instrumentation, and construction teams.
  • Support site installation, testing, commissioning, and performance monitoring.
  • Prepare as-built documentation and final design reports.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Instrumentation, or Corrosion Engineering.
  • Certification in cathodic protection (CP2 or equivalent) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of corrosion engineering principles.

Experience

  • 2–5 years for CP Designer.
  • Experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, water, or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with pipelines, tanks, plant facilities, and marine structures.

Technical Skills

  • ICCP and sacrificial anode system design.
  • Current requirement calculations.
  • Anode sizing and anode bed design.
  • Transformer rectifier selection.
  • Cable sizing and voltage drop calculations.
  • Soil resistivity interpretation.
  • Coating breakdown factor calculations.
  • CP testing and commissioning.
  • Corrosion survey techniques including CIPS, DCVG, and soil resistivity surveys.

Software Knowledge

  • AutoCAD
  • Microsoft Excel

  • Microsoft PowerPoint
  • CP design/calculation software (if available)

  • Client specifications (ADNOC, Aramco, PDO, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • CP2 certification.
  • Experience with ADNOC, Saudi Aramco, PDO, or other Middle East oil & gas projects.
  • Familiarity with HSE requirements and QA/QC procedures.
