The Shift In-Charge in CCU is responsible for supervising nursing staff during the assigned shift, ensuring quality patient care, smooth coordination of clinical and administrative activities, and adherence to hospital policies and protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate all nursing activities in the CCU during the shift (Day & Night).
- Ensure proper allocation of nursing staff according to patient acuity and workload.
- Monitor critically ill patients and assist in advanced nursing procedures when required.
- Ensure timely administration of medications and treatment as per physician’s orders.
- Maintain accurate and complete patient records, nursing notes, and shift reports.
- Check and ensure proper functioning of all life-saving equipment (ventilators, monitors, defibrillators, infusion pumps, etc.).
- Guide, support, and mentor junior nursing staff in clinical care and emergency situations.
- Handle shift handover and takeover efficiently with proper documentation.
- Ensure compliance with infection control, safety protocols, and hospital policies.
- Coordinate with doctors, technicians, and support staff for smooth patient care.
- Address patient/family concerns and escalate issues to higher authorities when required.
- Report critical incidents, shortages, or equipment malfunction to Nursing In-Charge/Administrator.
- Maintain discipline, professional conduct, and a high standard of nursing care in the unit.
