CDL BOOM TRUCK OPERATOR

Job Summary Description:
As an integral contributor to the overall business plan, Cement Products Inc. Boom Truck Drivers will deliver a wide range of building materials to our customers from mid-Ohio to Lake Erie. Boom Truck Drivers assure the correct products are loaded onto their truck, strapped down, and then delivered to the jobsite without damage in a safe and timely manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include, but are not limited to:
1. Perform daily pre-trip inspection of truck that includes checking fluid levels of engine oil, antifreeze, tire pressure, brakes, and boom controls for loading and unloading and cables. The driver must be satisfied that their truck is in safe operating condition. If the last vehicle report notes any deficiencies, the driver must review and sign off to acknowledge and certify the required repairs were made.
2. Performs minor truck and trailer repairs that may include installing light bulbs, marker lights, and reflectors. Report major repairs to Manager. Maintain cleanliness on interior and exterior of truck.
3. Verifies all materials loaded on their truck for accuracy and notifies Manager of any discrepancies before securing load for delivery.
4. Drive truck in a legal, accurate, safe and timely manner to destination, inspect site to ensure safe environment to unload, then unload truck at site using the truck-mounted boom.
5. Operates crane smoothly and safely to prevent excessive swings, eliminate cable jerking, and reduce wear on electrical and mechanical parts.
6. Maintain records required for compliance with State and Federal regulations. Maintain a current CDL and Medical Card. Keep in your possession at all times and ensure the company has current info on file.
7. Maintain cell phone contact with Dispatcher or Manager as necessary to receive delivery instructions, changes to delivery instructions, or ask questions about deliveries complying with Cell Phone Policy.
8. Must report all traffic accidents, tickets, property damage, and personal injury reports involving drivers or company equipment at the earliest opportunity.
9. Maintain effective working relationships with company employees, suppliers, contractors and customers. Promote and maintain the professional image and reputation of the company and ensure timely problem resolution and customer satisfaction.
10. Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements/Skills:
· Must have at least a Class “B” CDL in good standing
· Must have at least two (2) years Class “B” driving experience.
· Have a clean driving record within the last three (3) years.
· Must have a working knowledge of Department of Transportation regulations.
· Boom/crane experience (preferred)
· High School Diploma or GED (preferred)
Physical and Mental Demands:
· Must be able to remain in a stationary position (40% of time) and alert, while safely driving a commercial vehicle weighing between 70,000 lbs. to 100,000 lbs. on heavily congested roadways. A driver must hold paramount the safety of the public and never get behind the wheel should their personal circumstances compromise or render them unable to attain this ideal. Your manager or company official should be contacted immediately if this is the case.
· Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. as necessary throughout the day.
· Constantly moving from unloading materials from a Boom Truck onto the job site. Must be able to lift and maneuver ratchet, rachet straps, and attach aluminum cages to cube corners.
· Constantly operates a commercial motor vehicle and/or boom vehicle.
· Position requires climbing (ascending & descending) from cab onto bed of truck. Physically stack pallets and clean bed of debris by sweeping and maintaining cleanliness for next load.
· Must be able to judge distance while delivering materials and/or operating boom. Must also have clear, unobscured forward and lateral vision.
· Constantly working in an outside environment enduring from very cold to extreme heat.
· Requires the regular use of a cell phone (smartphone) with Bluetooth capability.
· Must be able to manage stress depending upon customer’s deadlines and demands.
· Must be able to read and receive information and directions, properly process packing slips and invoices including getting authorized signatures when required and demonstrate a high degree of sound judgement.
· Must be able to read, write, and speak in English and perform simple math skills such as addition and subtraction.
