The CDL Hazmat Vacuum & Roll-Off Truck Operator drives and operates a dry and/or liquid vacuum trucks, as well as roll-off trucks, picking up, hauling and unloading industrial waste including various fluids, solids, hazardous, and non-hazardous materials within oil and gas refineries, tank terminals, shipyards and other industry related facilities. Employee receives written and verbal assignments from a operator, foreman or supervisor. Work requires initiative and sound judgment.

Duties:

  • Pulls hose(s) from the hose tray and connects one end to the truck and the other end to a tank or mechanism for extraction. Monitors the amount of fluid/material extracted and the amount of fluid/material the vacuum truck is lawfully allowed to haul, and other situations presented by the site or the customer.
  • Delivers vacuum service in accordance with operation training and safety procedures including operating the flow, operation and functionality of 2 and 3 inch hoses, tank and flex hoses.
  • Reads work orders and documents work performed.
  • Maintains accurate electronic log books, pre-trip / post-trip inspections and maintenance files on the vehicle.
  • Uses hand tools and other equipment associated with the vehicle.
  • Employee may use highly technical and specialized equipment for the containment, stabilization and mitigation of emergencies involving hazardous and or toxic substances.
  • Duties may include the operation of specialized instruments for atmospheric monitoring and or communication.
  • Employee will participate in and attend special training to maintain skills and knowledge.
  • Employee must be able to respond to emergencies as needed, during normal working hours and after normal working hours such as weekends and holidays. Emergency response is a 24 hour 7 day a week job.
  • Employee is responsible for inspecting, maintaining and repairing any and all hazardous materials equipment.
  • Employee must assist the designated Supervisor with maintaining proper maintenance records of maintained and repaired equipment.
  • Must demonstrate safe work practices and avoid unsafe behaviors.
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Attend daily and monthly safety meetings as required.
  • Maximizes return, and limits related risk, on safety by following processes and procedures derived from the Safety Department.
  • Responsible for maintaining extreme care and attention necessary to prevent physical injury or harm to other employees.
  • Maintains his/her company issued PPE in a clean and fit for use status at all times.
  • Maintains his/hers large fleet vehicle (if issued one for a specific project). Making sure that the vehicle is always ready to respond and kept clean. Vehicles must be maintained with a full tank of fuel.
  • CDL Hazmat Drivers shall report to the Supervisor or Office Manager of his/her respective office.
  • Performs repairs, maintenance and decontamination of emergency response and industrial cleaning equipment, making sure that all equipment is in proper condition to respond to the next job.
  • Must sustain a high degree of attention to prevent damage or waste of company owned equipment and supplies.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Continuous, concentrated mental and visual effort to perform complex work.
  • Must be up to date on 40 hour HAZWOPER and confined space training.
  • Class A commercial driver’s license, with proper endorsements (air brake and Hazmat, Tanker or X) in good standing.
  • TWIC Card Capable.
  • Have the ability to lift 50 or more pounds on a continual basis.
  • Ability to work in extreme conditions of weather (heat and cold).
  • Capable of working long shifts under adverse conditions (up to 16 hours a day, and up to 14 days in a row).
  • Knowledge of Emergency Response, Industrial Cleaning and heavy equipment operations is a plus.
  • Knowledge of all applicable DOT rules and regulations.
  • Must have reliable personal transportation to and from job site.
  • Must be accessible by phone.
  • Must be On Call 24/7.
